Luke swirled his glass of whiskey. His mind was still on Caroline. He didn't want to be here, but Carter and the guys had insisted on it. He took in a long sip of the brown liquor. It left a burning sensation down his throat. Luke sighed. It was straight liquor. No Coke, no nothing.
Carter plopped down next to Luke in the booth, a fresh glass of Miller Lite in his hand. He turned to face Luke, a smile appearing on his face. "See, Luke? You don't need her to have a good time."
The moment the words left Carter's mouth, Luke got up. Tears welled up in his eyes. "No, Carter, you don't understand. I only have a good time when I'm with her!"
Luke was pacing back and forth, trying to decide whether to go to the washroom or sit back down. After what felt like eternity, Luke let out an aggravated breath and grabbed his glass, chugging down the rest of his whiskey, before leaving the bar.
When he reached the door, he stopped in his tracks. There she was, the blonde that broke his heart. He blinked twice, but then realized it was a different girl. Luke cussed at himself and turned back towards he booth his friends were sitting in.
"Maybe you're right," Luke sighed as he sat down next to Carter. "I love her, I won't ever stop loving her. But, Carter, I need to move on."
Carter smiled and hit Luke's back. "That's my boy!"
"There's just a slight problem," Luke sighed.
"What's that?" Carter asked.
"She's pregnant with my child," Luke told him.
Carter cringed. That's rough, he won't get to see his baby. However, he didn't need to beat himself up over this girl. Carter turned to say something, but before he could, Luke stood up.
"Damn, she's like whiskey," Luke said. "She makes you feel good at first, but the next morning, you're wishing you never let her kiss you."
Carter raised an eyebrow. "Like whiskey, makes you feel good when you take that first sip, but then burn you when you drink it."
Luke's eyes widened. "Wait, hold on. Remember that song?"
Carter knew what song Luke was talking about the moment he said that she was like whiskey. "Caroline's like whiskey. Your Mama Should've Named You Whiskey. Caroline is whiskey. Luke, is she really hurting you that bad?"
He slowly nodded. "I thought she was the one, you know? I love her more than I ever loved May, damn it!"
"What are you planning?" Carter questioned Luke, his eyes narrowing.
"I'm writing her a letter. This break up is gonna be mutual. I don't care what she says. She hurt me. It's gonna take a whole lot of begging for me to kiss her again."
Luke got up and went to the bar. He kindly asked them for a piece of paper and pen. Once he had the two things, he got writing.
Caroline,
I don't know why you did what you did. But I agree with you. I fucked up, I get that, but you said you wish you were never pregnant. You know how that makes me feel? Worthless. It makes me feel like I'm not good enough for you. That I'm just a mistake. That you didn't love me, you're just saying you do. Then you go ahead and break up with me? What am I to you? Your personal play thing? Did you just want the bragging rights to saying you slept with Luke Bryan? Because if so, that's wrong. You're wrong. So fucking wrong! I thought you loved me? Whatever, I don't care anymore.
Good luck trying to win me back. Good luck trying to get me to kiss you. Good luck trying to get me to fall in love with you all over again, because as far as I'm concerned, you were never the right girl. It's over, you say? Well, I agree. It's over.
