Caroline was playing with the A/C in Luke's truck. She had been complaining that it was too hot, but Luke found it freezing. He reached over and grabbed her hand, squeezing it. For a moment, Caroline got lost in the touch.
Luke looked at her for a brief second before looking back at the road. "Baby, why are you staring at me like that?"
"You're so sexy. I love this man," Caroline whispered, not realizing that she said her thoughts out loud.
Luke chuckled to himself. "She's lost it."
"Dada! Dink!" Kelly squealed. In the passed couple months Luke had been gone, his daughter learned more words. Just the basics, but at least she could say what she wanted now and who she wanted.
Luke let go of Caroline's hand and grabbed Kelly's sippy cup, passing it back to her.
Caroline finally broke out of her trance. She had a surprise for Luke on this trip to Georgia. When she went to the hospital for an emergency ultrasound, she had found out the gender of the baby. Luke was upset that he missed it.
It had turned that the baby didn't have enough fluids around it. Once Caroline was treated, both her the baby left perfectly healthy. "So, I'm sexy?"
"What?" Caroline asked, getting pulled from her thoughts.
"You said I was sexy. I guess I am, but I'm not one to get a big head. And I love you too, babe."
Caroline felt her face flush red. Did she really say that out loud? "I'm sorry. Now I feel embarrassed."
Luke her a confused look. He was her boyfriend, soon-to-be fiancè, so she shouldn't be embarrassed to call him sexy, or handsome, or anything else like that really. "Caroline, love, there's no need to be embarrassed."
"I know," Caroline sighed.
She rolled down the window as the familiar lands came into view. She then got excited as Luke pulled up to her parents' house. She ran out of the truck and straight to the front door, leaving Luke to get his daughter.
Caroline's mother, Yvonne, stepped out onto the porch, to be surprised by her daughter's arrival and even more surprised that she had a pregnant belly on her.
"Caroline, sweetie, you never told you were pregnant, let alone with someone," her mother said, shocked.
"Well-" Caroline was cut off by her mother screaming.
"You're dating he hottest man in county music?!"
Caroline turned to see Luke coming up behind her with Kelly in his arms. "Hello, Ms. Boyer."
"So, you're the one that captured my daughter's heart? And I'm assuming that's your baby she's carrying?" Yvonne questioned him.
Luke smiled as he wrapped his arm around Caroline's shoulders, pulling her into him. "Yes, ma'am."
"Well, hurry on into the house. Your father wants to see you," she said to Caroline before walking back into the house.
Luke gave Kelly to Caroline before inviting himself into the home, Caroline followed suit. Luke veered off into the living room where Waymond, Caroline's father, was. Caroline went into the kitchen where her mother was making dinner.
"Mr. Boyer? I have a question," Luke said nervously.
"Yes, what is it, my boy?" Waymond asked him, standing up.
Luke tapped is foot nervously as he reached into his back pocket and pulled out an engagement ring. Waymond was shocked, but also pleased, and excited for his daughter. "I, uh, I want to ask for your daughter's hand in marriage. But, I understand if you don't want her to marry me. I'll end it right away. But you have to know, that I love her so much. I could never hurt her, and I apologize in advance for when I do. Because God knows I will. I'd never forgive myself, even if she forgave me. I guess it is a little soon, I understand that. But, she's the world and if I have to leave her, not only would I'd be broken, but I guess I wouldn't be able to love again. Ever. I just really love her-"
