Can't Help Falling In Love

Chapter Eighteen

Shai's POV
5 months later

Its been five whole months since the accident and I've never been happier. Theo has been so kind and loving. He won't let me do anything around the house. Sometimes he won't even let me walk, even though last month the doctor gave me a boot so I could.

Theo has been cooking and cleaning all day every day. At night he always eats my favorite snacks and makes me pick the movie or show we watch. Sometimes I don't pick anything though. It's nice to just sit in silence cuddling with him. He is the love of my life. My soul mate. My best friend.

I would never trade anything I'm the world for Theo. He is the best thing that's ever happened to me. He makes me smile and laugh more than anyone I have ever met. I cherish every waking moment with him. Even when we are fighting my love for him is growing stronger, and I know we will work through it.

Today, September 6th, I am getting my cast off. I am so excited. I can finally do things again, and Theo won't have to wait on me hand and foot.

The producers have been holding off filming until I got better. When they heard about the accident nobody would leave our house. Ansel and Miles were there for about a week. They were so helpful to Theo. They are like brothers to me, but sometimes I need my space.

Zoë came for a day but she was on her way to airport because she was going to visit her family in New York. She felt so bad about it and kept apologizing. I told her it was fine. They all couldn't just put their life on hold because of me.

Even Neil and Veronica came over for dinner one night. They told us they were so happy about us being a couple and that it really helped the film. Theo even made "dauntless cake". It was really just chocolate cake mix from Hanford.

Julia also came over last week. She said her and her friend, Diana, had been in Florida. She stayed for three days and we did girl stuff like nails, and hair, and makeup. Theo met her for the first time and he said she was nice. It was really important he liked her because her and Zoë are my best girlfriends.

Everything has been perfect. And now things will only get better.

Theo is driving with his right hand placed on my knee. He is humming along with the radio. I think the song is called Shake it off.

"Are you excited?" Theo asks me.

I reach over and turn down the volume. "Yeah," I reply. "I can't wait to do things again."

"I can't believe you start filming for The Fault In Our Stars soon." He adds.

"I know! I'm going to miss you so much."

"I'm going to miss you more."

"It's just three months though."I happily reply.

"And they will be the three longest months of my life!"

"Probably." I laugh.

We drive in silence the rest of the way to the hospital.

Theo's POV

The doctors said they needed to run a few tests to make sure Shai was okay to do stuff on her foot.

I never realized how hard a mothers job was until these past couple of months. Don't get me wrong, I love Shai. But I was doing so much work: Cooking, cleaning. Laundry, dishes, etc.

I plan on having a big family with Shai one day. I would like to talk about it with her but last time I tried she flipped out and this happened.

But would it be so bad? I mean, I love her. And she says she loves me. So aren't we going to get married sometime?

I know I am not good enough for her. And I try every day to be the best I can be. It's not enough though. She deserves better.

She's like a dream. A dream you don't want to end. One of the dreams that when you wake up you try to fall back asleep in hopes that it will continue. But it slipped out of your mind. I will never let this dream out of my grip.

I have been waiting in then lobby for about ten minutes. A football game is on the tv but I haven't really been paying attention.

My phone rings and I look down.

RUTH💖
Hey baby❤️

Why do I even still have her number? She tried to tear apart our relationship once and I will not let it happen again. I quickly type back a response.

Theo: What do you want Ruth?

A few moments later my phone beeps again.

Ruth: Why so glum? I knew that old hag wouldn't satisfy you for long......
Theo: Leave Shailene out of it!
Ruth: It? There is no it. Nothing is going on. Unless you want there to be....
Theo: Ruth stop. I'm perfectly happy with Shai. We love each other. I did love you. You lost your chance when you cheated on me. I'm with Shai now.
Ruth: But baby I didn't mean it. Give me one last chance. I love you Theo and I know you still love me.

Is it true? Do I still love her?

Theo: Maybe I do. But so what? Those feelings are buried deep down. I love Shai more than anything and no one not even you will take her away from each me. We are soul mates. I'm not afraid to tell her anything. She trusts me. I will protect her from anything you try to do.
Ruth: She trusts you? Are you sure you know everything about that girl? Because trust me, I know more than you think.
Theo: What are you talking about?
Ruth: Try asking her about Damien. See what you discover. I'll be here waiting for you. Bye Sweetheart😘

Damien? Who is that? Could Ruth be lying? Is Shai cheating on me? No. I quickly push the thought down. She loves me.

I tuck my phone into my pocket. Doctor Bailey comes over to me, Shai is trailing behind her.

" You are officially free to go!" She cheerfully says.

"Great!" I smile and Shai takes my hand.

We walk out of the hospital hand in hand.

Who is Damien? Do I ask her? Will she tell me if I don't ask?

So next week is my school vacation and I am going away with my best friend. So I will probably not be able to update. I will try my best.
