Our Night On Valentine's Day

.. the dance with ..

It was almost nightime. The dark clouds were blocking the white glowing moon that could already be seen on that evening.

Today was the day the AD students participate in Sport's Day. And, tonight was the night they celebrate Valentine's Day. By now, people were getting ready for the dance. Checking dresses, picking up suits, getting their hair ready, make ups and taking pictures. But not Merida.

She was just passing by Elsa's sorority house when she bumped into Hiccup, wandering away in her thoughts. She fell onto the grass by the pavement after hitting a hard as rock shoulder.

"Woah, sorry Merida I didn't see you there." Hiccup helped her got up.

"I was like in front of you." Merida didn't feel the need to look at Hiccup in the eyes. Instead, she just patted the dirt away from her clothes and finally looked at him after she was done.

"Well, you didn't see me either, so.." he trailed off. He didn't plan to finnish that sentence anyway. He shove his hands in his pockets to keep them warm. "What're you doing here anyway?" He asked after silence ruled.

"I just need a walk. The archery competition just now was kinda intense. It was pretty tiring to be exact." Her scottish accent was slowly fading throughout these two years. She flipped her nicely braided hair on her back.

"Yeah same. I ran with Jack in the 400 meters pass baton." He wanted to talk more till he could ask the question that he didn't have the answer for.

Merida stayed quiet. She didn't really wanted to see anyone that time. Especially Hiccup. It didn't feel right for some reason. And then she knew why.

"Merida." Hiccup looked at her with hope in his eyes. He thought it was the time. The time to start a new beginning. The time to have an adventure with Merida. The time to move on from Astrid.

"Is it a 'yes' or a 'no'?" Hiccup's head moved a little to the front as he spoke, making his auburn hair wave.

Merida could see stars in his eyes. The whole universe to be exact. They were beautiful. But she knew that those eyes weren't for her. They weren't meant for her. She knew that this was wrong. That this was a mistake.

"Merida, are you going to the dance with me or not?" Hiccup asked again, clearly after she didn't say anything. She didn't want to leave him hanging nor heartbroken but it wasn't right to go with him.

Merida frowned because he asked her when he supposed to ask Astrid. She frowned because he was supposed to take Astrid to the dance. She frowned because, she didn't even like him.

The door to the sorority house made a small sound as it closed, alerting Merida and Hiccup that someone was listening to their conversation.

Merida walked faster towards the door, up the three white stairs, her hand reaching for the knob when Hiccup called out, "Merida."

His hands was out of his pockets, anxiety could be read on his face. He wanted an answer. He didn't want her to leave him hanging without it again.

Merida knew she couldn't get away with this for the second time. She knew she needed to answer this one. To end it all for once. "No Hiccup. I won't go with you."
