I'm sorry but why do the following things exist?:
The obligatory rapist. Like really? Does no-one realize how serious rape is? And God forbid the guy actually does it - oh no, the love interest just so happens to burst in at the last minute and beat the guy to a pulp. You do realize that if you happen to be at a raging party and some guy dragged you off somewhere, your somewhat drunken boyfriend would not have the sense to heroically rescue you?
The 'reserved' characters who always have these incredible make-overs and end up looking like ho's. If you're so reserved and quiet, why do you wear a belt as a skirt and use up an entire eyeliner pencil in one go? Then they have the nerve to talk about the 'skank' at school, even though they look the exact same now -.-
The character that claims to be so different and 'quiet' and their own person, yet they're the typical blonde hair and blue eyed bombshell? Because clearly the only hair colour you can have is blonde and brunette. Because black hair, ginger hair, red hair and dyed hair obviously don't exist.
The obligatory second love interest, because clearly one guy isn't enough.
The massive amounts of unrealistic drama, like the love interest selling the protagonist to a drug dealer. And somehow the protagonist always ends up forgiving the love interest. If a guy sold me to a drug dealer, I wouldn't run back into his arms, I'd castrate him and shove him off a cliff in the hopes that he will drop onto a sharp rock and feel the uncomfortable sensation of being probed by said rock.
The casual kidnap that everyone seems to get over without post traumatic stress. It's like the protagonist gets kidnapped and everyone freaks the fuck out, then the 'hero' goes to save her and she's all like 'awwww it's ok that I've just been through something that should cause a mental breakdown, because it doesn't matter as long as I have you babyboo'.
The annoying parents that 'ruin' their children's lives. Not gonna lie, most teenagers these days are the equivilant of 'girls gone wild'. They don't have restrictions.
The massive amounts of money. Literally, just this morning I read a story where the author wrote a whole chapter dedicated to describing the girl's room and how large her TV was. Does it look like we care whether her TV is 52inches, handmade by God himself and delivered to her by two angels? I always say: don't write something if it doesn't add to the story. Simply say 'my parents are rich' or something a little more creative, find a way to work it into the book. Don't tell us the size of her persian rug.
The love interest always happens to stay over night in the girl's room. I mean, the family is loaded, as aforementioned, yet out of all of the 3000 rooms in their house, the girl's bedroom is the one that the love interest ends up staying in. This is after they mention that their parents are so strict about everything in their life. Apparently they're not strict enough to let a teenage boy stay in a teenage girl's room overnight. Might as well throw buckets of condoms at them and pre-order the Karma Sutra from Amazon.
The arranged marriages. Seriously? How many people do you know in real life that have arranged marriages? Further to that, they're usually to do with religions and Asian cultures. Tell me exactly how many of your characters are Asian?
That's another thing - diversity. When has the protagonist or love interest been non-white?
The stereotypes. Why are there always emos and popular bitches and cool jocks? I made it a point in my story 'stolen kisses' to seperate from that entirely. The protagonist is a mixture between both - she's confident but she's not a popular bitch and she's struggled with a lot but she's not an emo. Her love interest, on the other hand, is not a jock or a nerd or anything at all - he has no label, because that story doesn't revolve around stereotypical teenagers.
