-(Still) author's POV-
"Do you like it?" Layla excitedly showed Melody a picture of her nails that she had just taken.
"I love it! Thank you!" Melody felt content with it, as she used to not like the idea of going to a salon.
Her nails were painted turquoise, matching her clothes - and, the colour theme of her surprise party.
"Aw I'm glad!" Layla suddenly tried to hug Melody, forgetting about the wet nail varnish on her fingers.
"Oh! Sorry," She nervously laughed. Luckily she didn't ruin anything.

"Hey Jin, how are you and Hoseok doing with the deco?" Jimin phoned them up to see if they were making progress.
"I'll send you a pic of it, we're doing really well!!" Hoseok butted in, his voice so loud that Jimin had to jerk the phone away from his ear.
"Hoseok, calm down," Jimin laughed, "We're getting the presents now, so see you later."
They hung up.

-Melody's POV-
--5 hours later--
By now, I had forgotten about the disappointment of my birthday. It's selfish. Also, Dad and Danielle called me up, wishing me a happy birthday. I received a parcel, and found a gold necklace with an infinite sign on it. It was to show that, no matter how far we are from each other, we're still connected. That was enough to make me feel grateful.

There was a knock at the door. Layla and Katrina entered in unison, as if they had a secret to tell me. They held my hands, and skipped out the door & down the corridor.
"W-what are you doing guys?" I stuttered, seeing their mischievous smiles.
"You'll see..." Layla continued skipping, sounding excited.

They led me to the doors which open into the main hall - Jimin had once told me that's where they sometimes practice.
Katrina put her hands over my eyes, and my heart started to beat in exhilaration. Is this about to do with my birthday? Is it possibly why they were pretending not to know? I told myself to not expect anything big, but the doors swung open and I gasped.

Inside the hall it was dark, except a cake with a single candle on it, illuminating the middle of the hall.
Then the singing started.

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Melody,
Happy Birthday to you.

I could tell it was BTS. Layla and Katrina joined in too. I put my hand over my mouth, tears of joy about to pour out of my eyes.
"You... You did this for me?" I asked, my voice coming out as a whisper, the room still dark.
"Go on, blow the candle," The person holding the cake was Jimin. I saw his face, and his only. He was smiling, looking into my eyes sincerely. I went over to the candles, closed my eyes and made a wish.

I want to live a happy life with Jimin, and all my friends.

I opened my eyes again, as the lights turned on. I gasped again. The rest of BTS were standing around a table in the centre of the hall. The room was decorated with buntings, banners, balloons and, table decorations. And what seemed like presents in front of me, on the floor. And it was all my favorite colors : lilac and turquoise.

"SURPRISE!!" Everyone shouted, giving me a warm smile.
"This is beautiful..." I turned my head around in all directions, admiring the hard work they'd put in. For a second, I was angry at myself for thinking of them as being rude. Because this wasn't just any ordinary birthday party. My eyes suddenly caught attention of a beautiful cake, on the long table. It was a butterfly cake - My favorite symbol. It's because they remind me of mum - Elegant, beautiful and peaceful.

A tear rolled down my cheek, overwhelmed. I've never felt so loved in my life. To see everyone making a huge effort just for me, made me the happiest person in the world.
"Melody! Open your present!" Katrina squealed.
"Haha, I will," I giggled.
Everyone say in a circle, waiting for me to open the first present.
Their eyes widened, fixed on me.
I suddenly burst out laughing, from hoe serious they looked.
"Just open it!!"
The first present was a stunning peach red dress. (Photo on media) It was not right nor loose, and had a v-neck line.
"Wow..." I didn't know what to say. But I hugged the dress tight, and closed my eyes.
"Thank you," I tried to sound appreciative.

"It's ok." Layla came over and hugged me.
"Just hug me instead of the dress," she pouted.
I smiled.
The rest of the presents made me feel grateful more and more. I got a ring, shoes, stationary, flowers, and a Polaroid camera. I couldn't explain in words how much I felt the effort that they made.
"Thank you..." I was sobbing with joy, running up to them and giving them a hug. We all huddled around in a circle, while more tears fell down my cheeks.
When I let go, they all gestured to sit at the table. Home cooked food was laid all around it, hot and ready for dinner.

"Waaahhh..." My mouth was watering, and my eyes widened as I sat down on my seat.
"You're so cute," Jimin chuckled. I blushed, slightly embarrassed at my reaction. I really do love food.
Some dishes were English, while some were Korean. I recognized Kimchi and Kimbap.
"Who made all this?" I curiously asked, feeling the urge to praise whoever had the amazing skills to make all this.
"Me and Layla," Katrina grinned.
"Really !?" My eyebrows raised. I didn't know they were that good.
"Yea, it's nothing. Just a little something." Layla swatted the air with her hand.

"Just a little something? I bet it took you ages, you didn't have to do this!" I put my hands on my cheeks, which felt hot with excitement. We all sat down and got our chopsticks ready.
"We all wanted to do something special for you, since you've done a lot for us." Jimin, who was next to me, slung his arm around my shoulder. I kissed his cheek, making him blush.
"Ooooh!" Everyone cooed.
"Hey~ It was just a peck," I pouted.

We laughed, and started to eat. For the next 30 mins, the room was filled with compliments and laughter. All the worries from the past were forgotten for a moment, and instead happiness replaced our hearts. It was the best birthday I've ever had. Jimin kissed me on the lips this time, while everyone else was talking to each other.

"Happy Birthday," He whispered into my ear, "I love you."
"Thank you, love you too," I giggled.

I realised, there is a really important rule in life that everyone takes for granted. And that rule is to appreciate everyone that you have in your life. Because that someone could dissapear in a matter of seconds. Before you know it - They are gone. Forever. I learnt it the hard way. I always used to take people for granted, expecting them to be by my side everyday. But it wasn't like that.

When all of this happened, I was worried if everyone was too broken to ever forget the past. I thought they would remain depressed, and give up on pursuing their dreams. And all hopes would be lost. But I realized - It's not about forgetting. Because no matter how hard you try to erase the memory, you can't. You only hurt yourself more by doing that. I know now, it's about learning from your experience and getting stronger. That way, you help other people and they feel inspired by you. And now, everyday I think, I want to be that person who anyone can come to ; to talk, cry and laugh with.

And today, I appreciate every little thing in my life.

If you ever think of yourself or your life as nothing, just know it will always get better. I'm not saying, it will be perfect like a fairytale. I'm not saying you will never go through hard times again. But, you can learn to pick yourself up no matter what happens. We're humans. No one can control their feelings. Instead of suffering all your life and complaining, use it in the future to make yourself indestructible. Before it becomes too serious, I'll tell you one thing.

Don't you think your life is worthless, okay?
