I took my seat and watched as everyone started taking their own seat after filling their plate. Matthew put a plate in front of me and smiled at me. I looked down at the food. I wasn't hungry. I sat silent whole everyone else enjoyed the meal.
Matthew was the first one to finish and he looked at me and smiled.
"Out did yourself G."
"You cooked all of this?" Marina asked in astonishment.
"Self praise is no praise." I said quietly and looked down at my plate.
"But you are good." She praised.
"I agree Gwyn, you have a talent." That was from the Corporal. I blushed slightly.
"I could take some pointers, don't you think Matt?" She asked and I looked up at her.
"Gwyn is the best teacher out there. I say go for it babe." He said to her. Babe? Was I missing something. I turned to look at my twin. I knew there was a reason he didn't pick up the sadness in my eyes, the reason he was smiling this much. And that reason was dressed in a purple cocktail dress. He didn't look at me.
"I wouldn't say that." Another quiet response from me.
"Don't be so modest G." He lightly shoved my shoulder and I didn't budge. Couldn't budge. I had a sinking feeling in my stomach which meant two things, I was not getting any sex tonight and something I didn't like would happen.
Plates cleared, dessert put off and stomachs stuffed. Now was the moment for something stupid to happen.
"Can I have your attention. Marina and I have an announcement to make. We're having a baby and with the circumstances, we're also planning on getting married." Stabbed straight through the heart. There were congratulations going around the table even my father said something akin to happiness. I was the odd potato who didn't say anything. I looked up at him.
"I'm happy for you spider." Was all I could say. I pushed back my chair and stood. I began clearing the table, anything to take my mind off of it. Anything.
"Gwyndolyn, would you like help?" Woman from hell asked.
"No. No thank you." I turned my back and walked to the kitchen. Walked back out, collected the last three plates and walked back in. Walked out with another bottle of wine and picked up the empty one and returned it to the kitchen. I could clean the wears but when everyone left Kevin would hit me for being rude. Swallowed my pride and I turned back to the dining room.
"That's good news." The Corporal said. I missed something.
"What's good news?" I asked taking my seat. He looked at me and his eyes zeroed in on my cheek.
"Your father gets time off to help with wedding plans." The Corporal said and I died internally. Bullshit. I hid my expression behind a practiced face of nonchalance.
"Great." I faked enthusiasm.
"Where did you get that bruise?" He asked me and the air left me.
"Door slammed me this morning." I smiled. Throw them off. Bitches.
"What a nasty bruise." Matthew said and I turned to him with angry eyes.
"Don't worry about it brother. I could take care of myself. If you would excuse, I'm a bit tired." I said and stood and turned to the hall that led to my bedroom. I couldn't be bothered, I would take my beating with opened arms.
*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+Friday after class as I pulled up at the house, I was shocked to find two cars in the space in front the house. I opened the door and was shocked to find my father with my mother and man sitting at the table.
"Good evening." I said as I made my way into the dining room.
"Lyn." My father greeted. I stared at the man that sat with them. He looked tall and well built, with light brown eyes and dark brown skin. His hair was cut and in waves and his square jaw was adorned with a beard. "This is Terrance and he'd be staying with us for a little." Terrance looked up at me and smiled. I stared back. I turned to look at my father instead.
"What do you want for dinner?" I asked in a casual tone.
"Sheppard's pie." He said with a thoughtful face. I nodded and turned to walk to my room but stopped to go back and and take out the minced meat when I heard Terrance talk.
"Is that her?" He asked sounding happy.
"Yes that's her."
"So you're just giving me your daughter."
"If it pays off my debt, then yes."
