Terrance pulled up outside a house. On first glance I hated it. It was big, glassy and not very effective looking. It had a chimney for Christ's sake, that was ideally very stupid. Since we were in the Caribbean and we only experienced two seasons. Dry season and rainy season. What the actual fuck was I supposed to do with a chimney in this heat. The big black gate looked out of place in my eyes but I figured it made sense for the area.
We were currently in Westmorrings looking at house number one. I was dispatched at the hospital and put to do as I pleased. Terrance got out of the vehicle and I slowly slipped out. On careful feet I took the first step towards the house.
"What do you think?" He asked and I turned to look at him, his eyes on the house.
"You want my opinion?" I asked dumbstruck for a second then I turned to look back at the house. "Um... I don't like it." I said and looked at him. He raised an eyebrow and a slight smile adorned his lips.
"You are judging a house by its cover." He smiled and I laughed. He just cracked a joke and it was stale but it was something. I shook my head and looked back at the house, willing my mind not to think of my brother.
"Shall we go in?" I asked and he held out his elbow for me to take. I laughed and placed my hand in his elbow. He led us to the house and opened the door and led us through the house.
The house had low ceilings and as you entered the house there was a very big hall of nothing awaiting you. We walked past the hall of nothing and to our right was the living room where there sat a fireplace and I choked on my laugh. Terrance glanced at me, but held his tongue. We walked out of the living room and walked into the dining room which had a credenza sitting on the side of the room and a low chandelier hanging over where I supposed the table would go.
The kitchen was spacious, with double sinks, an electric stove, two wears drainers and large cabinets. After the kitchen sat a half bath, and an office then the stairway which was oddly placed to the back of the house. Upstairs there were five bedrooms and another office and there was basically no yard to do anything. When we made our way to the front of the house Terrance asked again.
"What do you think?"
"You want a big family?" He stared at me and frowned.
"Sorry to disappoint, but I don't want kids. I understand if you thought I would want you to carry my children but I'm not even slightly interested in having kids."
"No disappoint, I can't have kids so I was just wondering." I shrugged my shoulders and looked back at the house.
"What do you mean?" He asked and I looked at him.
"Three years ago my ovaries were swelling and I had fibroids. There was a tumour on my right ovary that was carcinogenic so I had them removed." I closed one eye and looked at the house. "I really don't like this house. Too big for just the both of us." We walked away and he helped me sit in the car.
"If you could, would you want?" He asked and I smiled. I knew something was on his mind.
"I can. I have eggs at the ova bank. I just don't think I will." I shrugged and glanced out the window. His phone chimed and he pulled it out. He typed a quick reply then put his phone between us.
"My mother wants to meet you. She wants to take you dress shopping." He said and pulled away from the house. I didn't have a problem picking out a dress, I knew for a fact that this would be a problem and I couldn't stand other peoples choices for me.
"Wonderful." I said and turned back to look at out the window.
"Will your father be home?"
"Um, he isn't supposed to be. He'll either be on work or in the fields." I looked at him. "Why?"
"You need your things, and I wanted to avoid confrontation with him." I hummed and nodded. That was fine with me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Two hours later and Terrance was now pulling up at my previous home. My car sat alone in the driveway and I slid out the car and walked towards the doorway. I opened the door and made my way to my room at the back of the house. I pulled out the two suitcases I owned and started putting clothes in them. I was on the second one when Terrance walked inside.
"Is that all you're taking?" He asked and I looked at the suitcases.
"No. Get a bag and grab anything else that I would use now. My laptop goes in its bag." I said and he mocked saluted me.
"You wear a lot of skirts." He said out loud and I looked at him. A lot was an understatement. I had a skirt in every colour and every pattern possible.
"It's easier to wear skirts. Not all jeans fit properly." His eyes skimmed my body and rested on my hips.
"I see what you mean. You are what, a size 3 in jeans and size 7 in hips." I shook my head.
"2 in waist and 8 in hips. Problems." I shook my head and threw the last of the clothes I was taking into the suitcase.
"You are leaving all the dresses?" He asked and I glanced down at my almost full suitcase.
"No room. Besides, I'm not that much into dresses." He left the room and I walked to the chest of drawers and started picking up my toiletries. He returned with two large garbage bags and made his way towards the closet. He pulled dresses off their hangers and placed them in the bags.
"I like my lady in dresses and skirts." He said and flashed me a smile. I rolled my eyes and carried on with my task. I walked into the bathroom and pulled out my shampoo and conditioner and toothbrush and when I walked back into the room I saw Terrance putting his 'gift' in my suitcase.
"What are you doing with that?" I gaped and he turned to look at me with a slight smirk on his lips.
"What do you think?"
"I don't know."
