I woke up Monday morning with Terrance's head on my breast and his arm slung over mine. My first exam started at 9:30 and I checked my phone and the time read 5:48.
I stroked the back of his neck with idle fingers and hummed under my breath. I had a Maths test today, and I believed I was ready. I spent most of yesterday reviewing formulae and going over examples to ensure I had everything covered. Terrance had come in and fed me so that I would take my pills as well as get something to eat. He had tried to stay up with me but ended up crashing some time after eleven whilst I finally crawled into bed sometime after one.
Terrance's phone rang from its place on the bedside table and I glanced at it. He let out a groan before rolling off me and reaching for his phone.
"Morning?" He answered and he sat up in the bed. His eyes were still closed and the phone pressed to his ear as his head was rocked back against the wall. I climbed off the bed and walked towards the bathroom where I did my business then brushed my teeth.
When I got back into the room, Terrance was asleep and the phone was on my side of the bed. I frowned at him but walked towards my suitcase to grab a pair of jeans and a UWI polo and a pair of undergarments then walked to the bathroom to dress.
I took a quick shower and took my time dressing before looking at my hair in distaste and deciding to style it in a French braid. I walked out of the bathroom and grabbed my bag, before walking out the room and towards the kitchen.
I was surprised to see Isla sitting there with a cup of tea by the kitchen island. She looked up at me and tried smiling nicely, however it looked very much like a grimace and it was an image I wanted to forget. I mumbled a morning and walked towards the kitchen where I grabbed a mug and went straight for the coffee. Before I could even open the container, my phone chimed with a text. I pulled it from my back pocket and rolled my eyes.
Mr. T: Don't drink coffee. I'm watching u.
Marshmallow: Stalker!!!!!
I rolled my eyes and grabbed a red rose packet instead. I mixed the tea and walked back to island and placed my bag on the far side, away from Isla and stood there sipping my tea.
"So, Gwyn, have you decided on a date?" She asked and I frowned. The date was set, she knew this, everyone knew this.
"Um, yeah. It's on the 17th June." I said and walked to the fridge and pulled out a yogurt.
"And what do you think about the colours?" She asked just as I put the first spoon of yogurt in my mouth.
"Well Terrance and I decided on black and white and-" She cut me off.
"No, no, no. The colours are lilac and baby blue. No compromise." My jaw hit the floor.
"I'm sorry Isla, um, the colours are black and white. Terrance and I agreed on those colours." Well that wasn't true. He told me I could pick whatever colours I wanted, once pink wasn't a choice. I had envisioned getting married in a black dress even but he said his mother would probably have cardiac arrest if she saw such a thing.
"Terrance told me whatever I liked." She said and turned up her nose and I rolled my eyes. She was acting like the bride who couldn't exactly get what she wanted, besides she wasn't the bride.
"Well there in lies the problem because last time I checked I am the bride." I said and took a spoonful of yogurt. Score one for Gwyn.
"All you are is a face. I am his mother and I make a say in his life." Low blow for Isla for not saying pretty face.
"I appreciate that Isla, but this is our wedding and I think we would like things our way." I said to her. Score two for Gwyn, for putting your foot down. I glanced down at my feet and realised that I wore my slippers and frowned. I pulled out my phone.
Marshmallow: Bring my converse and a pair of socks please. I'll be your wife.
I looked up and sure enough Isla sat there staring daggers at me and I'm sure you could probably see the steam coming out of her ears if you looked hard enough, but I didn't care.
"Do you have a bridesmaid?" She asked after I discarded my empty yogurt container.
"Not yet." I disposed of the remainder of tea, not quite liking the dregs that remained.
"I was thinking of one of Terrance's cousins. She would be perfect. Or maybe Shay-Maia." The hell is Shay-Maia.
"Thanks for the offer, but I'll pick my own bridesmaids." She didn't get to reply because Terrance walked in bare backed in nothing but a pair of boxers and slippers on his feet.
"Morning." He grumbled in a very sexy morning voice as he walked towards me and placed the sneakers on the floor. I smiled at him and he stifled a yawn.
"Good morning son, are you leaving this morning?" Isla asked Terrance and I looked up at him.
"No. I have a meeting for 10 and I have something to do." He said and kissed my forehead. "When are you leaving?"
"Around 7. Maybe earlier. Why?" I asked and he shrugged.
"I'm having a late night. So I'll see you when you come home?" He asked wiping a hand down his face.
"I guess. When do we look at the next house?" I asked him.
"You're moving out?" Isla asked and I glanced at her and the horror written on her face was near comical.
"Of course. Did you expect me to live here forever." Terrance scoffed and I did a victory dance in my head.
"I don't know. I just, I thought. I don't know." She stammered out and a smirk played on my lips.
"Well I best be gone." I said in a sing song voice trying to play off my sudden burst of happiness. I gave Terrance a quick peck and stooped to put on my socks and shoes. An evil idea popped in my head and I grasped it by it's pointy horns. "Baby, what colours did you want for the wedding again?" I asked from my spot on the ground.
"Aren't we going with black and white? Isn't that what you wanted?"
Score three for Gwyn. Three strikes and you are out. I win the games.
