The door creaks open slowly and see Tobias enter the house with the corner of my eyes. I totally ignore him as I change the television channel, letting down the remote and eating a mouthful of cereal. Tobias slowly approaches me and I can see the guilty look on his face.
"Hey." He says quietly.
"It's sundown." I say, not bothering to look at him. "You were supposed to be here ages ago." He sighs, sitting down next to me and placing his arm on my shoulder. I put down the bowl with cereal because I don't want to spill the milk and have to clean it all up.
"I know . . . Im sorry." He whispers resting his head on my shoulder and breathing calmly into my hair.
"What did you help Zeke with?" I ask, waiting for another lie from him.
"I helped Zeke move Shauna's stuff in his apartment. They moved in together." He says nervously. I nod.
Zeke and Shauna already lived together when I came back from LA. Those words almost escape my mouth, but I force myself not to. I want him to know that I know he is lying, but I also don't want to fight. I don't want to force the truth from him, I just want him to trust me.
"I was texting with the girls today" I say changing the subject. "Shauna and Chris wanted to go out shopping but I didn't want to join them. I said I was waiting for you to come home but . . ." That's all I say. Shauna did ask me to go out with her and Christina, and I know she wasn't doing anything today. She had no plans. That's why I point that detail out, like a small indirect to tell him that I know he's lying. He just clears his throat and pulls me closer to him.
"Look, Im really sorry I left you alone today." He says. Apologizing, that's always a good idea to calm me down, and he knows that. The way he does it, makes me forgive him every time. He stares into my eyes, holds me tight and whispers. It's not like he is "manipulating" me. Its just the way of guilt and honesty he says it and the way he stares at me that makes me realize that he knows he's wrong (or has done something wrong), and that he has blamed himself all day for it, which makes me forgive him.
"It's fine." I say sighing and closing my eyes, leaning my chin on his shoulder. "Just please next time, when we have our alone time, don't leave me alone like that." I say quietly, breathing his scent, which this time smells different. He always has his smell. The "smell of safety" which I call. This time he smells different, though I can't put a finger on it. It's not something I should really worry about, because its just a goddamn smell, but still, it makes me think.
"I won't." He reassures me. "But what I will do, is make it up to you." He adds, making me look up at him with confusion. He smiles, with a hint of a smirk. Its dark now. The sun is down and there's just a little lamp on.
       "How?" I ask sleepily.
"We can go to dinner somewhere. Or have a walk at the beach." He suggests. When he mentions the beach I chuckle lightly.
"Isn't it too late to go at the beach?" I ask laughing a bit. He shrugs, still smiling.
"It's never too late." He says and I sigh, a smile twitching in my face. His smile fades a little, as he leans over and brushes his lips against mine, kissing me. His hand moves up and hols my cheek, slowing the kiss a bit, and holding my head still. My left hand tugs on his chest, as the other one wraps around his neck. I pull back from the kiss to catch my breath.
"God, I waited all day for that." I say referring to the kiss, as we laugh a bit. He presses his soft, warm lips on my forehead.
"So, wanna go to the beach?" He asks against my forehead. I nod, pulling back and smiling.
                                                                                  +++
"Don't!" He yells as I splash water towards him, giggling and laughing. Even though its late, and dark, it's always fun to go in the water. It isn't that cold, so I wear my shorts. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go in the water, so I didn't bother taking any bikini, but instead I just took my shirt off. My bra looks kinda like bikini, and even if it didn't look like one, I wouldn't care. No one is around, except Tobias and I, and I don't care if he sees me on my bra. He has seen me in only a bra before. Even naked.
"Oh, now I'll show you." He says, running towards me, making water splash all over us, smirking and smiling. He cages his arms around me and picks me up to where the deeper water is and them pulling me underwater with him. Though he doesn't go under water until he makes sure I suck a deep breath of air. His embrace tightens as he swims up, dragging me above the water with him. I laugh and wrap my arms around his neck, pressing my body next go his and pecking his lips twice. He holds me by the waist as he smiles widely.
"I love you." He whispers, opening his eyes and staring at mine. "I love you." He says louder and lifts my body above the water, swirling me, making me giggle and then crashing my lips to his.
"I love you, too." I say back, grinning and placing my hand on his lower back. I feel him wince for a slight second, but before I can ask anything about it, I hear someone call.
"Hey!" A manly voice yells from the seashore, making us break the kiss and turn our heads confused. "You can't be at swimming this late!" He yells for us to hear, since we are very far away.
"And who are you?" Tobias asks annoyed.
"Lifeguard." He replies and Tobias sighs in annoyance.
"Well we won't be drowning anytime soon" says Tobias.
"Out of the water! Now!" He demands. He isn't yelling at us, he just speaks loudly so we'll be able to hear. Tobias tenses up as his breaths quicken. This always happens when he's angry, when someone tell us/him what to do.
I place my hand against his chest, coming closer to him and placing my lips next to his ear, whispering "Calm down." and holding his hand. "C'mon. Let's go." I say, and start swimming away from the deep water and approaching the ground. He glares at the guy, and then follows me. When we reach the seashore, we're both dripping wet. We didn't know that we would be swimming, or having any contact with the water, so we came unprepared. Without any bikini, without towels, flip flops, anything. So Tobias runs my arms lightly to keep my from shivering.
"Sorry guys. I don't have any problem with you swimming–or kissing– in the water, but thats my job." The man says approaching us.
"Yeah, its fine" I say holding Tobias' hand so I can calm him down. He really hates this dude.
"Wait. Tris? Your name was Tris, right?" He asks.
"Yes" I say it more as a question than a statement. "How do you— Ohh. You're the lifeguard that saved me and Olivia." I say and he nods.
"And this must be Tobias, your boyfriend." He says. Im surprised at how he remembered my name, let alone Tobias'.
"Yeah . . ." I say a little awkwardly. I think his name was Tyler. I see his eyes flash below my eyes, glancing at my bra. Its obvious that it isn't bikini, and his eyes lay there for a good two to three seconds. I cross my arms, trying to cover up my bra and Tobias wraps a protective arm around my shoulder, continuing his death stare at Tyler.
"Here" Tyler says, bending down, grabbing two towels and offering them to us. "You must be freezing."
"Thanks" Tobias says and gets the towels. First, he lets one towel on the sand, while he wraps the other one around my shoulder. After he makes sure aim fine, and all dried up, he dries himself with the other towel. These small things make me the happiest in life; him making sure I feel comfortable and safe as a first priority.
"So why are you here so late?" Tyler asks.
"Why don't you stick to your own business" Tobias snaps.
"Tobias!" I whisper yell, grabbing his hand, telling him to keep his mouth shut and back out in this conversation. "We just felt like it." I answer Tyler politely. "Well, we're just gonna go home now. Thanks, for the towels." I say taking off the towel and handing it over to him. Tobias does the same.
"Sorry for bothering and ruining your moment back there" Tyler says awkwardly and nervously.
"Its fine." I say bending over and grabbing my shirt, holding it up to my chest. "Bye."
"Bye" he says back. Tobias and I turn around and start walking home. I wear my shirt immediately, not wasting anymore time. The shirt sticks on my body a little, since my hair keeps dripping, making my whole body we again.
"I hate that guy." Tobias states. No shit?
"Well, that guy save Olivia's life" I defend. "You could've at least thanked him about that."
"Besides that, I don't like him." Tobias says and places his hand on my shoulder, pulling me closer to him. "So do you want to go home?" He asks, changing the topic.
"Yeah, I guess." I say and hold his hand, my fingers tangling with his. "When will we have to pick Olivia up tomorrow?"
"Five PM." He replies and I smile.
"I guess we're gonna have a little alone time tomorrow."
