"Can I ask you something?" Christina asks as she keeps her eyes on the road. She just picked me up from the airport and she is driving me to my house. When she saw me at the airport, she squealed and ran towards me, wrapping her arms tightly around me and holding me tight while she screamed in happiness. "Why didn't you reply to any of Tobias' letters and blocked him?" She asks and I sigh.
"He told you that?" I ask closing my eyes.
"Well, Zeke did" she says. "Tobias told Zeke, and Zeke told us . . . Also you blocked me! Like, dude! The hell?"
"Fuck" I mumble. "She blocked you too?"
"Who did?" She asks furrowing her eyebrows and glancing at me confused.
"My mom" I say. "That's why I never received any of your messages, and I couldn't call or text you guys. Also my mom hid every letter Tobias sent me and I thought he just. . . Wanted to break up"
"Tris you should tell him what happened! Like, right now" she says. "He's been a wreck since you left. He has been like. . . The definition of a depression!" I sigh as she pulls over. I open the car door and turn to her.
"I'll call you later" I say. "I want to be alone when. . . You know, I tell him" she nods and smiles. I close the car door and go to the back of the car, where I get my suitcase and wave at Christina while she drives away. I glance up at my aunts house and open the front door with the key I took care of and hid in my room since we moved back to LA. My aunt doesn't live here anymore. She is now in Switzerland because of her job. She said I can have the place to myself (which I am very thankful for).
The second I leave the suitcase in my room, I go back down stairs and get out of the house, crossing the road and standing in front of Tobias' house. I hold a few of his letters in my small hands as I start to shiver from fear. I such a deep breath while I knock on the the door, my hands shaking. No one answers for a few seconds but then the door swings open. A brunette girl stands in front of the doorway. Her eyes are a dark brown, almost look like black. She has a kind smile but she doesn't seem as nice as she looks. I look around the neighborhood one more time, checking if I got his house wrong.
"Em. . . Hi" she says.
"Hi" I say looking behind her. "Is Tobias here?" I ask.
"Well, yes he is in his room but he said he didn't want to be disturbed" she says. "You can come later" I sigh, mentally rolling my eyes. Who even is this chick? Why is she here?
"It's an emergency" I say. "I need to talk to him, like, right now"
"Im sorry but I can't let you in"
"Who even are you?" I ask getting frustrated. She puts on a smile, which seems a little evil and mean.
"I am Nita–Olivia's babysitter, and I take care of her and this house" she snaps. Anger builds inside me as I feel the urge to hit her repeatedly until she bleeds to death.
"You listen to me" I say pointing my finger on her chest as I take a step forward and staring her in the eyes. "I am Tobias' girlfriend and I haven't seen him or Olivia in one year. Do you know how long that is? So just let me fucking in!" I say raising my voice at her as tears build in my eyes and my voice starts to crack.
"Come back later" she says and the door slams shut right in front of me. I let out a scream as I try blinking my tears away. I stomp back at my house and a few tears slide down my cheeks on the way. I open the front door and close it harshly while I scream. I came all this way, after all this year so I can be with Tobias, but apparently I hate to Come back later. Who does that Nita girl think she is? Tobias wouldn't tell her to not let anyone in, would he?
I go up to my –new/old– room upstairs and jump on the bed face first. I just now realize how tired I am. I didn't have any time to rest (except for the plane, but the plane is very exhausting so that doesn't count). I sigh and bury my face in a pillow as I grip on it tightly. For a few minutes, I just lay there and enjoy the silence and the comfortable bed I lay on. I re-live every memory I've had in this very room–with Tobias, Christina and the rest of the group. I can't wait to see them all again.
"Tris?" I hear a muffled, manly voice yell from outside and I sit up stopping my breaths so I can hear better. "Tris?" The voice yells again. My eyes fill with tears as I stand up and sprint down the stairs. I open the front door as fast as I can and gasp as I see Tobias standing on the middle of the road, confused. His eyes widen when he sees me and so do mine.
"Tobias" I say as I let out a sob and run towards him, wrapping my arms around his neck fast and tightly. A few tears stream down my face as I feel his touch and his hands go on my lower back, and as I smell his scent –always the same, the mixture of soap and sweat. I pull back a little and stare at his stormy, ocean eyes that are filled in a puddle of tears and stare at me in shock. I crash my lips on his, and they feel so heavenly against mine, so soft and warm. He kisses me back passionately but then I pull back because the feeling starts overwhelming me. I place my head against his chest and hear his heartbeat, which beats so fast.
"I love you" I say letting out another sob as I grip the back of his shirt.
"Why didn't you reply?" He whispers quietly as his voice breaks a little. "I've written for so long, and I only received two letters from you" He says as I look up at him. He seems like he is going to break down any second now.
"It's a very long story, I'll explain later" I say. "But just for now; I never got any of your letters either" I add and his eyebrows furrow. His large, warm hands cup my face.
"But I wrote you hundreds of times a month" he says getting worried and I feel his heart beat beating faster. "How didn't you—"
"I'll explain later, please" I say. "I just want to stay with you now, just . . . Enjoy the company of each other because I haven't seen you in so long, and . . . I-I miss you so-so much" I say starting to bubble and stutter while my voice gets a little high pitched from the upcoming sobs and tears. He nods and we slowly walk to my house, bodies pressed together, my head against his chest, his chin resting on the top of my head as he strokes my hair with one hand and fingers laced.
