It's Olivia birthday today. We've invited all her friends a few days ago, bought a lot of decorations and boughed a cake. Everything's perfect. The children sing and dance with Disney movie songs. They don't quite sing, they scream their lungs out, but its cute seeing them have fun. There are almost twenty kids here. We've connected the laptop with the TV, so the music volume is very high. Hakuna Matata is on right now. This was always my favorite Disney song. It always calmed me down as a child. It made me feel better, and happier.
Olivia has a tiara on her head, spelling Birthday Princess, and she wears a beautiful rose pink dress, similar to the one Tobias bought me last year. I picked it up for her. While Tobias went grocery shopping (for the second time, since all the stuff he bought got smashed into the ground when he ran towards me a few days ago), Olivia and i went shopping for clothes. Tobias once again begged me not to spend too much money on her clothes. He also begged me to use his money, but of course I didn't listen. Olivia is important to me as well, and I don't car how much money I spend for her, and neither does Tobias. He doesn't care about money much, he just doesn't want me to spend money, because then he'll feel guilty. Which he shouldn't.
Tobias stands up, watching the kids dancing and laughing. His arms crossed and a small smile across his face. I approach him, sighing and wrapping my hands around his torso, resting my chin on his chin on my shoulder. The smile on his face widens when he realizes it's me. He turns around, facing me and holding me by the waist while I put my arms around his neck. "We'll be the awesome-est parents on earth." He says glancing at the children and I chuckle while he laughs a bit. I always love it when he mentions us being parents, having children, but it also scares me. It scares mw that we won't be able to make it that long.
The sing changes. It's the Lion King playlist that keeps going, so the next song is Can you feel the love tonight. Tobias' smile fades as he sighs and every muscle in his body releases. "This one's my favorite." He say referring to the song. His eyes close and he pulls me closer to him, pressing my body next to his, my head next to his chest, hearing his steady heartbeat. I keep my head up, staring at him. This song has a backstory and Im sure of it. The way he listens to it, makes me wonder why he loves this song so much. Though it makes me happy when I see him smile. He opens his eyes again, looking at me as his smile widens. He brushes our noses a bit, making me giggle quietly. I lift my head higher, standing on my tiptoes and crashing our lips together.
"Shhh! Don't look!" Olivia whisper yells, making us pull back immediately. The kids all stare at us, a few in shock, a few admiring. Olivia grins from ear to ear, but clears her throat, like she saw nothing. "Go on. Do your thing." She says, motioning us to continue. We laugh nervously, pulling back. The doorbell rings and I thank god for making an excuse to leave. Olivia would make us kiss again in front of all of her friends, and we promised we would obey everything she said today, since she's the birthday girl.
"I'll get that" I say and jog to the front door. It must be one of Olivia's friends. I open the door and a middle aged women stands in front of me with two children. A little baby on her hands, and a girl Olivia's age. She must be Sophie. She's the only one that hasn't showed up yet. "Hi" I say smiling and waving at the baby.
"Hello. Is this the right house? Im here to bring my daughter at a birthday party. They said this is the address." She says a bit confused. I feel Tobias' hand on my waist as he stands next to me.
"Yeah, this is the house" I say motioning inside the house, where the loud kiddy songs come from.
"Oh. Well, here is Sophie." She says and smiles. Sophie hands me a birthday present.
"Thank you, sweetie." I don't know what's up with me today. I've been calling motherly names all day. I guess I just love children. Sophie runs in the house joining the others. "You can pick her up in two hours or so" I say and Sophie's mother nods.
"How old does Olivia turn?" The woman asks.
"She turns seven." I respond and she furrows her eyebrows lightly. Her smile fades and its replaced with confusion.
"How old are you?" She asks.
"I turn eighteen next month"
"So, how old were you when you were pregnant with Olivia?" She asks me. Oh god. She thinks Im Olivia's mother.
"Oh, no. You've got it wrong" I say with a hint of laughter. "Im not her mother. Im her brothers girlfriend" I say pointing at Tobias on my right.
"And where is her mother?" She asks again. God she asks too much questions. I honestly don't know where Tobias' mother is, or where she lives, or what happened to her. I never heard of her. She was never mentioned. I have thought about what could of happened to her, but I never asked. I felt bad to do so. I stutter a bit, squeezing Tobias' hand lightly, asking for help. He tenses up a bit.
"We wouldn't like to share private things. Thank you for bringing your daughter here. We'll see you later" Tobias says and closes the door, leaving the woman confused in front of our doorstep.
"Well that was rude" I mutter, loud enough so Tobias can hear. I want to know what happened to their mother. Tobias knows the darkest secrets of mine, and I have the right to know more about him. I don't even know when his birthday is for goodness sake. We never talked about the things we kinda had to talk about to know each other. We skipped that part, and shared the deepest secrets first. I don't regret it, but I'd really like to know the superficial things about him. "Am I allowed to ask the same question?" I ask him quietly. He just stares at me, not saying a word, not moving an inch. "Whatever. We'll talk another time." I mumble when I realize he won't tell me anything. I then just walk away, towards the kids. I hear him sigh, but I ignore it. I understand if he don't wants to tell me that right now, during Olivia's birthday party, but I want him to tell me eventually. I usually never get what I want. Whatever it is that happened with his mother, I shouldn't think of it right now.
"Guys! We want the cake!" Olivia yells through the song, dancing up and down. I smile.
"Coming!" I run to the kitchen. Tobias follows me this time. He speeds up and so do I. He wants to catch me. I giggle, continuing to run, turning my head back, glancing at him every once in a while. He groans through his grin and finally catches me, picking and lifting my body up, making me giggle. I grip on his shoulders, so I don't fall, and he holds me by the waist, swirling me once and then putting me down while I peck his lips. "The kids want the cake" I state and he nods. He bends down, picking up the plastic plates and plastic forks. I get the cake and we walk to our backyard. Olivia told us she wanted to eat the cake outside and play in our backyard, so we know they'll be there.
"What do you want your cake to be decorated?" I asked Olivia a few days ago.
"I want a round cake! With sparkles and flowers!" She yelled excited, jumping up and down. "U-u! I want the flowers to be pink and purple!" I like her creativity, and I am thankful she didn't ask for the same cliché Frozen- Ana and Elsa cake. That movie was nice when I saw it for the first time, but it's so overrated. The original Disney movies are much better.
Olivia hasn't seen her cake yet, and neither did anyone else. Instead of glitter, the baker put pink and white sugar on too of the eatable flower decorations. She gasps when she sees the cake and giggles. I place the cake on the table, and we all start singing the "Happy Birthday" song. Olivia grins from ear to ear, waiting for everyone to stop singing so she can blow out the candles. Typical impatient Olivia. She's just like her brother.
"Happy Birthday to you." We all finish singing and then clap. Olivia blows out the candles, and then we all cheer. I pick up Olivia and kiss her cheeks, while I hug her tightly. "Happy Birthday my chipmunk" I say and she giggles. Tobias smiles, staring at us. I bend down to Olivia' height as she hugs me. There's a click sound, and I turn my head, seeing Tobias snap a picture of Olivia and I with a professional camera. When did he even buy that? Or was it just laying around the house? "Go, have fun with your friends" I say stroking her hair once and patting her bum so she can leave.
She giggles, "I love you, Tris" she says and runs towards her friends. I straighten up, walking towards Tobias and folding my arms while I stare at the kids.
"Your time to do the work." I say with a hint of laughter. He chuckles and rolls his eyes playfully while he starts cutting the cake with the big knife next to it. I can't wait for the end of the day, so we can show Olivia her gift we bought her. Its not something too big, or expensive, but it's something she has been begging for. A bike. Pink, glittery, purple bike.
