Trick or Treat

We happen to be visiting my parents in the states on Halloween. Being in their large cul-de-sac, my dad told Niall about the full-size candy bars some people here hand out.

So Niall gets all excited; "(Y/n), we've GOTTA go trick-or-treating!"

"But we don't have costumes."

"I have bed sheets!" My mother hands us two white cloths.

Niall's face lights up. "Ghosts!"

After cutting out eye holes, we grab two pumpkin bowls to collect candy with.

Niall takes my hand, leading me down the street and we begin knocking on doors and, in return, earning several types of candy. Only, he somehow gets lucky and gets the good, big candy bars, and I get the sucky brands.

As we round the corner toward my parents' house, Niall takes off our costumes, stuffing them in his bucket. He leans down, placing a kiss on my cheek. I smile, and start towards the front door.

When I notice that Niall has disappeared.

"Niall?" I shout. "Niall! Where are you?"

Suddenly he appears behind the large bush to my left. "Boo!"

I scream, my hand on my heart. "Jesus! Don't do that!"

My heart is going about 100 miles an hour as Niall's arms wrap around my waist. I start squirming, but he tightens his hold.

"C'mon, it's Halloween. It's supposed to be a scary night," he says quietly.

"Not the point. I don't like being scared to death. Especially when it's midnight, pitch black, and .. I can't get the door to open!"

Niall releases me, trying the knob. But it's stuck. He rings the doorbell, and thankfully my dad answers it in minutes.

"Geez," I say, stepping inside, "this is just not my night."
