Shaira's eyes blinked when the alarm clock stroke at 4:00 am. It has always annoyed her hearing that sound early in the morning. But she had to rise from the bed.
"Are you sure you're going to pursue this job?" She recalled her mother's question last night. Shaira told her family about the experience with the snake that day and they were all ears for her every word.
"You don't need to come if you don't feel like it. I can still provide for the family." His father added as she packed her clothes for one week training in another city.
"Mom, dad, don't worry too much. When I decide not to pursue, that will be final. But for now, we are just in the beginning. It's not all the time there will be snakes on the road." She smirked.
Those words made her more determined to get a permanent position in the job. She wanted to help her family. She craved for freedom too. To show them that she can be independent. Most of all, she wanted her parents to have a good time when she is already capable to work. She waited for this for so long. She was feeling excited to see herself providing for her sisters' tuition fees and giving a little luxury to her parents.
She would also show Nigel one day that she has transformed from an abandoned ugly duckling to a beautiful swan.
She uttered her silent prayers that morning, thanked God for waking her up and asked God to take care of her. She was so grateful to experience this opportunity.
Her mother was the first one to get out of the bedroom to prepare for her early breakfast.
By 6:00 am, she was all set. Her father sent her to the bus station.
She rode in an air conditioned bus and there was a television that played music videos. Her seat mate was snoring and through the quietness, the music reverberated through her consciousness.
Bonnie Tyler was singing live and there's nothing much to do but look and listen. The curtains in the bus were all down so there was no way she could look from the outside without looking in front and having a view of the television.
If I sing you a love song, will you always remember?
Will you hear it on lonely nights when I'm not around?
It was the first time she noticed the lyrics even if she was familiar of the melody a long time ago. The song was an old one and it is not much known in her generation. It was more relaxing in a quiet ride. The stereo was not very loud but it seemed that the music gives rhythm to all the movements inside the bus and even in the view outside.
Love songs last longer
than lovers ever do
So baby let me sing a love song for you
Oh baby I'm afraid it could happen to me and you.
"True," she thought. Of Nigel. This love song has been there for a long time than what happened to her and Nigel.
If I sing you a love song
let it always be with you
When the others have gone away
let is still be there...
