Shaira's POV
It was the thirteenth day of our third month in that upside-down complicated relationship. Peace was declared. But a big news made my night sleepless.
"Hello, good evening."
"Hi."
"How's your day daddy love?"
"Not so fine. :( "
"Why?"
"Nothing. Its complicated. I'd rather not tell you."
"I should know it. I'm your girlfriend. Perhaps there's something I could do to help."
"I'd rather have you keep your peace of mind."
"Okay. If that's what you think so."
"Goodnight for now. I'll sleep early."
"Alright. Whatever it is that bothers you, cheer up and just pray. Good night."
I thought it was better not to bother him too much. I did not like to be the cause of another heated argument and feel guilty of it afterwards. Asides, the relationship just came back together.
There was a part me that did not believe he would be sleeping early. But since he said it, I decided to entertain myself reading his sweetest text messages in my inbox. Something was really off and I needed some entertainment to let the lingering negative thoughts slip away.
My inbox was a substantial proof that Nigel loved me and it somehow appeased me. Didn't it?
As I scrolled the inbox, there was a text message from Carmen. Carmen was Nigel's friend. She was Nigel's classmate and she called him best friend. For some reasons, I believed that he was quite friendly with girls.
Carmen had this genuine loyalty for me as a former teacher. She did not know a thing about my relationship with Nigel. How would she react if she learned about it? Probably, she'll lose respect towards me for being so easy. Cheap girl... Whatever they say, I just love Nigel!
I hope that Nigel did not confide with his best friend yet. Or else, I was going to think that there was a connivance. A kind of game that only kids younger than myself played.
"Hello there, Miss Shaira!"
"Hi Carmen! How's school?"
"It was fine."
A detective's tactic went through my mind. I replied:
"Sure, its fun in the school, right?"
"Yes, of course, especially when we had a bonding altogether with the group.I missed it."
"Same here darling. How about your best friends over there?"
"That? Nigel was not fine."
"Really, but why?"
"Oh my goodness Miss Shai, can you keep a secret?
"Yes, of course."
