CHAPTER TWENTY

Ray's POV

Everyone is over for dinner tonight. Alicia finally woke up, she'd fallen asleep on the couch. The kids were all very hyper, jumping allover Alicia when they saw her. I got a happy greeting from everyone, but I'm not sure how to tell them that I won't be here for dinner tonight. I've never missed a family dinner before- none of us have.

I quietly slipped away to my room and changed into nice jeans and black polo shirt. Fancier than my usual, but I want to look good.

I crept back out to the kitchen, hoping to grab my wallet off the counter and make an unseen exit, but things weren't appearing to want to go my way. "UNCLE RAYRAY!" Cherry squealed. Lily jumped up, expecting me to catch her. I did of course, only to put back on the ground. As I was bent over, I felt the small hands of Bandit tangle in my hair. I quickly untangled her and grabbed my wallet. I kneeled down in front of the girls, who were looking shocked that I wasn't playing with them like I usually do. "Girls" I whispered. "Uncle Ray Ray has to go out for a little while. I don't know if you'll be awake when I get back, but I'll see you soon if your not, okay?" They nodded, appearing to be happier now. "Oh! And, don't tell your mommy and daddy" I told them, looking each of them in the eye. They nodded obediently and ran away to go play a new game.

I darted towards the front door. I thought I was home free until I heard Bandit scream "Mommy! Uncle RayRay is leaving!" I could hear the tears in her voice. Shit.

I heard the sound of footsteps nearing the front door, LynZ, Jamia and Alicia all coming into view. "Where are you going Ray?" "And why are you dressed so fancy?" LynZ and Jamia asked me. "I've uhh.. I've got a date" I told them. "A DATE!" Alicia squealed. "RAY'S GOT A DATE!" LynZ yellled. "Whooo!" I heard Frank yell, and soon everyone was standing in front of me, the little girls with guilty expressions on their faces.

"Yeah. I've got a date" I said again, glancing at my watch. "Which I am going to be late for if you don't let me go soon." "Yeah man!" Gee shouted, hugging me. Soon it was a big group hug. Why is my family so big on hugs?! "Enough! I have to go now!" I yelled, pulling out of the hug. I ran out the door and into my car before they could say anything more.

I pulled up to my date's house, she was already sitting on the front porch waiting for me. "Sorry I'm late!" I said, running up to her. "The family showed up and the kids were all over me" I said, sighing. She just laughed and shook her head. "No problem" she told me, standing up. She was wearing a sundress with a small white sweater. "You look amazing" I told her, kissing her quickly on the cheek in greeting. "So do you" she said, gesturing to my polo shirt. I smiled as we got into my car and drove away.
