Love Me Genisis

Chapter 2

It had been a week since Alice's wedding. Genisis exited her office building and headed down the street to her favorite little café, Spill the Beans. She stepped inside and the delicious aroma of fresh brewed coffee assaulted her nose. She walked up to the counter and smiled to the older woman behind the counter.

"Hi Kellie. What's great today?" Gen said to the older woman.

"Hello Gen! The spiced chai is amazing!" Kellie replied.

"Add a shot of honey and lemon please." said Gen.

Kellie went to work on the drink as Genisis turned to head for the pastry counter, bumping into the customer behind her. She felt his arm slip around her, stopping her fall.

"I got you." the mystery man whispered.

She looked up into the bright greenish-blue eyes of the man she'd seen at her assistant's wedding last week. His lips parted, revealing a bright white set of teeth as his smile spread.

"You okay?" He asked, genuinely concerned.

She snapped back to her senses and righted herself on her feet.

"I'm fine. Thank you." she replied nervously. 

She stared at his gorgeous face and noticed his lips moving. Her hearing returned just in time to catch his name.

"-Roman. You are?" he concluded.

Dawning struck his eyes and she thought he knew of her from her past but his next sentence quickly put her at ease.

"Oh yeah! You're Jennifer! Right? Jen? From the wedding." He guessed.

She chuckled a little and shook her head no.

"Genisis. Gen with a G for short." she explained.

He nodded as a slight flush of pink flashed in his cheeks.

"Sorry about that." He mumbled more so to himself than to her.

She smiled and he swore all the oxygen had left his body. She was beautiful. Kellie cleared her throat and extended the steaming cup of tea between them. Genisis grabbed the tea and rushed away, paying for the tea and a whole grain bagel before hurrying on out the door.

Roman took out his cellphone and called his sister. She answered on the last ring.

"Hi Brother!" Alice called through the phone.

Roman jumped right to the point and said, "Hey Alley Cat. Listen. That Genisis girl from your wedding. How do you know her?"

Alice replied, "I work for her. She's the ad company's CEO. I'm her executive assistant. Why?"

Roman ordered first then spoke to Alice, "Coffee extra cream. Oh. Sis, I was just wondering how well you knew her to invite her to your wedding."

He heard her giggle before she replied, "She's my boss. She's nice. We work at her place sometimes when something at work requires extra hours. She has a daughter and a dog that live with her. I don't know about the father. She works same hours as me I suppose. But why do you care? You're engaged, Big Brother."

"I know. Just was wondering why I hadn't met her before but you invited her." He lied.

He walked back out to his car with his coffee in hand. He heard her suck her teeth at his horrible lie.

"Whatever Brother. I have to go." she replied dismissively.

She hung up and he hopped in his Jeep and headed for work.

"Back to crime scenes and perps." he said to himself.

So this is kinda short compared to how things will go once the story is up and going. Bare with me.
