Roman walked in to work on cloud nine. He quickly came crashing to earth upon seeing his sister standing next to his desk. She pointed to the loft and headed up. He sat his coat on his chair and followed. He reached the loft and she rushed into his face.
She glared up at him as she said, "What do you think you're doing? She's my boss! You're engaged Julius! What if she finds out?! What if she finds out I knew and fires me?! Oh my God! You're going to get me fired! I'm gone lose my job!"
Roman grabbed her by her shoulders to stop her rambling.
He looked in her eyes and said, "Look. I just need time to figure things out. Who I should be with. You know?"
"Be with the one you proposed to, you dumb ass!" she hissed.
Her anger was evident. He walked over to a nearby chair and rubbed the back of his neck as he sat down. He rubbed over his face and looked at her.
He diverted his gaze and admitted, "I settled for Patricia because it felt weird to be this old saying girlfriend. And Mom was on my back about marriage. I was under pressure for that proposal."
Her mouth fell open. Unable to remain angry, she stroked his dark blonde hair away from his forehead and made him look into her eyes.
"You have feelings for Miss Gen." she guessed.
He nodded and said, "She's the most amazing woman I've ever met. Her daughter is incredibly bright. I mean seriously intelligent. Exactly like her mother. But what do I have to offer a woman like her? A one bedroom apartment and a list of good takeout places?"
She sympathized with her brother and said, "Miss Gen doesn't care about stuff like that. But please just slow down until you know. Please."
Meanwhile, Genisis arrived to her brunch date with Sitra.
"Hey Girl!" Sitra pretty much shouted.
She smiled at Sitra's louder than necessary greeting as they embraced briefly. They sat down to order and Sitra instantly jumped into conversation and rambled, "So what's new? Any tea? Is it sweet? Spill everything."
Genisis wasn't exactly ready to spill all about Roman. But she also didn't want Sitra to feel bomb rushed at next week's couples luncheon. Plus she didn't keep anything major from Sitra. And her dating someone after so long was major.
"Well... I'm seeing someone." she admitted.
Sitra choked mid sip of her sparkling white grape juice. Genisis laughed as she pat Sitra's back. Another moment of choking and Sitra regained her breath. She took a long sip of her drink before looking straight into her best friend's eyes and saying, "Spill it."
"Well... It's Roman." Genisis admitted nervously.
She wiped her clammy hands on her jeans and a satisfied smirk settled on Sitra's lips as Genisis took a few shaky breaths before she could speak clearly again.
She went on to explain, "It's been going on for two months. Since the night of the club actually. By the way, thanks for dragging me out. And actually the fruit bouquet was from him. He said he didn't know my favorite flower. Oh! He met Taylar yesterday. She absolutely loved him. So did Baby. He was amazing with Taylar. I have a feeling he's a cat person. But he tried and Baby appreciated that."
Sitra sat forward in her seat and leveled with Genisis.
She flipped a nonchalant hand as she said, "Okay. Congrats on all that, Roman. But what about you, Gen? I gotta know!"
Genisis flashed to last night. She touched her lips, feeling every kiss and touch and thrust as vividly as when it happened. She could feel his kisses on her shoulder as he cuddled her close before they drifted to sleep.
"Amazing. He treats me amazing." Genisis whispered in a slight daze.
"Oh. I see." was Sitra's reply.
Sitra wore a blatant grin with devilish satisfaction. She knew one thing for certain. A forgotten side of her best friend had resurfaced. They continued to eat and catch up on each other's lives.
Sitra was expecting her son to arrive any day now from his father's home in Germany. August was her high school fling the Summer before senior year. Their Summer romance resulted in Augustus being born just after finals. Sitra wasn't ashamed to be a teen mom in the least. She carried her son across the stage at graduation.
Here it was nine years later and her son was on his way to spend a year with his mother. Genisis smiled at the pictures of little Augustus & his father that they'd sent her in the mail. She looked to her watch and they both began to wrap up their meal and head to work.
Moments later Genisis was walking into her office. Alice met her at the elevator and handed her some files.
"Confirm my dinner with Roman." Genisis said as she headed for her office.
"Yes Miss Gen." Alice said slightly nervous.
Alice bowed her head and rushed to her desk. She waited for Genisis to close her office door before snatching her cellphone out her purse. On the third ring she heard the line connected and she said, "Miss Gen says dinner tonight at 8. Big Brother please don't get me fired."
She hung up and looked around the office. She was gone miss this place.
So another update. I'ma try to keep a steady flow until the book ends.
What do you think of Alice? Does she have reason for her concerns?
Does Genisis seem the type to fire someone for a personal matter?
Sitra is my girl. L0L!
