I let out a breath of air that I didn't realize I was holding in as I tip toed my way to the front door of Aunt Heather's apartment. It has been almost a week and a half since I've been here with her, yet I haven't mentioned one word of the party to her. For one thing, I wasn't sure that she would let me go, and I didn't want to burden her in any way as I haven't left other than to go to school. I just don't want her to worry about me.
Right now though, she has fallen asleep in the living room on the recliner sprawled out with the TV on showing re-runs of Friends. She's always been a light sleeper, so any little noise made would wake her up. The easy part was getting to the front door, but the hard part was to get out and gently close the door. With the key word here being gently. Her door has squeaky hinges, so it'll make noise no matter what. It'll make more noise if I move slowly, but I'll have to stop the door right before it closes then push it closed.
Well, here goes nothing.
I make sure that I have my key to get back in and my phone before I carefully unlock the door and slip my small frame out. The hinges made little noise, but it still sounded loud causing me to worry. As I stop the door before fully closing it, I peek in to make sure she was still asleep. Her feet twitch slightly and she clutches the grey fleece blanket closer to her body. Seeing no other movements, I shut the door and hurry down the stairs holding my heels in my hand (this is the only time I'll wear heels).
Luckily for me, all of us girls were meeting at Gwendolyn's house, which was only a five minute walk from the apartment complex. I hate walking barefoot on the sidewalk, but I also hate walking in heels when it's not necessary which is why I'm glad I won't be walking long.
"Hey girl long time no see!" Gwendolyn exclaims when she throws her front door open and sees me.
"It's been forever," I agree, giving her a quick hug before stepping inside the house. "Where are the other girls at?"
"Oh they're upstairs in my room putting the finishing touches on their hair and make up which you need to do," she says, gesturing towards the stairs and dragging me along with her.
"Well speak of the devil, and she shall appear," Aniya says, lining her eyes with Kohl.
"Yeah we were just talking about you and how you are late," Jadan says, throwing me a tube of mascara and lip gloss and patting the space next to her by the vanity.
"I had to make sure that Aunt Heather was asleep before I snuck out," I tell he,r going to sit next to her and start applying some other make up besides the eye shadow and eyeliner I already had on.
"Oh yeah, how's life with her?" Aniya asked, fluffing her hair a bit before tying on her shoes.
"Not bad, really. Honestly it's better than living with my parents that's for sure. I'm not being pestered about going to a therapist or having people breathing down my neck to get fixed," I said checking my phone to find a text message from Hendrix.
"Oh, who's texting you?" Jadan asked, peering over my shoulder at my phone. "Ugh it's only Hendrix."
"What does her want now?" asked Gwendolyn as she dug around her mess of a room looking for her gold belt to put around her waist.
"He said that they're on their way and that we all need to be ready to go," I said, snatching one of Gwendolyn's necklaces off her vanity to borrow for the night.
"Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready to go and have fun," Aniya says, slipping her purse across her chest. Her outfit was very simple, having a mint green cotton top with a white lacy skirt that stopped a few inches above her knee with white converse adorning her feet. She also had gold and silver bangles on her right wrist, and her purse was a deep shade of burgundy.
