I look over to my left side to catch a glimpse of my boyfriend. I don't want him to notice me because he is already nervous about his upcoming driver's test. His brown hair is cut short, but his bangs almost cover his eyes. Those pretty emerald green eyes of his are transfixed on the road, and his eyebrows are knitted in concentration. His older brother James and his girlfriend Ann are in the backseat because that was the only way James would let us use his truck for driving practice.

James is extremely tall and towers over most of the people at our school. He has black hair that is a bit grown out, has hazel colored eyes, and also happens to not speak a lot, but when he does, he always has something wise to say. His body also has a strong built and is very toned and muscular which I think is part of the reason why Ann likes him: she feels protected. The two of them met when he came upon her being attacked by a man and fought him off for her. She's clung to his side ever since.

Ann happens to compliment him very well. Unlike him, she is talkative and speaks for him most of the time. When I first met them, I thought it would be the opposite with him being the one that talked for her, but she proved me wrong within minutes. She has long red hair that reaches down to her waistline and bright blue eyes. While James is tall, Ann is quite short, shorter than most of the people at our school.

Winter had finally come again, and snow had been falling down in rivets. Salt was being poured on the roads again, and people were out buying tire treads again. Despite this, the road we are driving on today is slick with ice due to it snowing heavily throughout the week along with lowered temperatures. I'm so thankful that cars have heaters in the seats because if not, I would be shivering even with my wool sweater and thick sweatpants. My body was never meant for the cold, and I always got sick whenever the temperature turned this way. I turned away from Sage and looked out the front windshield at the scenery that flashes by. For some reason, even though it is freezing, I love looking at everything outside layered in thick snow. It just looks so beautiful like you could always take pictures of it and find them to be as bright as the real thing.

Suddenly, everything starts to slow down and move in slow motion before my eyes as a force rams into the truck. It jerks me to the side, and my arm slams into the door handle. My head is thrown back, and I struggle to turn towards Sage. His eyes widen in surprise and terror as he too if thrown to the side. Through the rear view mirror, I watch James grab onto Ann and hold her tight against his chest, shielding her body. I grasp with my good arm until I latch onto Sage's arm and squeeze for dear life. We brace ourselves for the impact to come, but what we didn't expect was to flip over and tumble into a ditch that had only a thin layer of ice covering it. The truck broke through the layer of ice and started to sink. Everyone struggled to get out before the water pressure was too great, but my right side was still pinned against the door. I continued to be tossed about, and the last thing I remember was the glass on the passenger side door breaking when my head hit it, and Sage screaming my name as water surged in.

Everything that happened after was just dark...
