"Thank you for making waffles Mom!" I shout out to my mom who is upstairs before clearing away my spot at the table and started walking towards the front door.

"You're welcome Kade! Enjoy your day and call if you need anything!" she replies back shouting her answer as well. Recently, my mom and I have been on good terms. I think it might be because I'm making more of an effort in school, and the fact that I still go regularly to Dr. Lori's office may be helping too. She's made more of an effort to not snap back or judge me when I do my normal daily activities and to talk to me more. Because of that, we have a better relationship. I think she talked to my dad too because he's been nicer. He actually talks to me and doesn't avoid eye contact anymore, but our conversations feel somewhat forced to me. It's a start. Baby steps.

"Don't worry about me! I will," I say closing the front door and walking down the driveway to where Ann's blue Kia Soul was parked.

"Hey girl! How are you doing?" Ann asks me as soon as I climbed into the passenger seat and buckle my seat belt.

"I'm doing good. You?"

"I'm doing great! I'm so excited that we are hanging out today! It has literally been forever!" Ann tells me clearly excited about today as she backs out of the driveway.

Yesterday, Ann had texted me and asked if I wanted to spend the day with her.

"Why isn't there anything on TV?" I asked myself as I layed on my bed and flipped through the channels. Next to me, my phone went off, and I picked it up to look at it.

Ann: Hey! Are you doing anything tomorrow?

Me: No not that I know of. Why?

Ann: I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out tomorrow. We talked about it briefly a little while ago, and I wanted to know if you wanted to do it tomorrow. If not then when?

Me: Oh yeah I remember! If you want to hang out tomorrow, I'm up for it.

Ann: Great! I'll come pick you up tomorrow after breakfast!

Me: Okay see you then.

Right now, we were driving around the town looking for a place to eat lunch. We had gone to a couple of stores and bought jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies. Ann dragged us into a nail salon and basically demanded me to get my nails done. She refused to leave until I had done so, so I had to submit in order to be able to leave this place.

Even though Ann wasn't happy with my choice, I told her I wasn't happy that I was there in the first place. I had decided to go for solid black nails for both my finger and toenails because Ann fussed about it being too plain, I ended up getting little designs on them. They ended up getting white stitches on them.

"Come on. You have to admit it looks pretty cool," I said to her wiggling my fingers in her face.

"Whatever you say, but I wished you would've chose something a bit more festive," she said shaking her head at me and swatting my hand away from her face.

"Well I didn't particularly want to go there in the first place," I tell her getting into the car.

"Fine then. How about you chose where we go next?"

And that's how we ended up at a henna tattoo place.

Instead of me being the one reluctant to go in, Ann didn't want to. After I had pointed out to her how she forced me to go into the nail salon, she gave in and came inside. Even though I was able to get her in, she went for a more simple design. Hers was a flower that stemmed down to her pointer finger placed on her left hand. Mine was more complex and was on both of my hands. The middle of my hands had two different designs that were both mosaic while my fingers were enclosed in black swirls.

But with that being over, it was lunch time, and we were two starving pigs.

"Where do you think we should eat?" she asked as her eyes scanned for a place to eat.

"How about there?" I asked pointing to the left side of the street where an Applebee's was.

"That sounds good to me," Ann said as she started making our way over to the restaurant. Once we parked and got out, we went up to wait for a table. With it being lunch rush time, it took a little waiting until they called for us. We were seated thirty minutes later and ordered immediately as we thought about what we wanted while waiting.

"To be completely honest with you," Ann starts to say taking a sip of her drink, "I haven't felt like myself since the accident."

"What do you mean by that?" I asked her.

"I'm afraid to be on the road driving, and I'm pretty much basically attached to James at the hip," she explains picking at her food that's left on her plate.

"Well I mean that's normal isn't it? Like we were in a car wreck, and we could've died. Shouldn't what you're feeling be normal?" I asked in confusion. To me, what she feels should be expected.

"Yeah I guess so, but I just feel weird because it isn't me you know?"

"Trust me I understand more than anyone. This whole time I've been trying to figure out who I am because it's like I'm split in two down the middle. I don't know what to think anymore, but I'm figuring it out little by little."

"Thanks for this day Kade. It really means a lot to me," she says her eyes wet with unshed tears.

"Your welcome, but please don't cry because then I will too," I say laughing as I wipe away the small tears in the corner of my eye.

"I'll try not to," she says laughing also, "Look I do have one more question to ask you."

"What is it?"

"How do you feel about Sage? Like I mean you two seem to be trying and getting closer."

"Well I-I um um I-I . . . I don't really know," I admit casting my gaze down.

"It's okay. I just hope you figure it out soon."

"Hello Kade how was your day?" my mom asked me as I walked in the front door after Ann dropped me off.

"It was really great," I tell her heading up the stairs to my room. When I went to open my door, I stopped to find a lavender origami bird hiding on the handle. I sighed and my smile turned into a frown as I opened up yet another note.

"Don't stray from what you know is right." ~ Hendrix
