I woke up and slammed my hand into the alarm to make it shut up. I screamed out in pain. I had forgotten about my stupid hand. I took a couple deep breaths and quickly got dressed. I went into the bathroom and followed my usual routine for the morning then headed downstairs. I saw that my mom wasn't home again and found a note claiming that she was at another job interview.
I grabbed my bag by the door and walked outside to Connor's car, completely ditching breakfast. "Eesh.. Someone's grumpy.", Connor teased. I gave him a wry little chuckle and buckled my seatbelt. When we finally got to the school we parked in our usual spot and found Penny.
She squealed, "Oh my gosh! We need to hurry up and discuss what you're wearing.", she gestures her head towards me.
"I thought my outfit was already fabulous!?", Connor laughed and does a 360 spin, showing off his designer jeans and a leather jacket he was wearing over a black shirt that was too tight. She laughs along for a second then focuses her attention back on me.
"Ok. So you know how I think that the new guy Andrew is hot right?"
She gives me a worried look. I nod my head.
"Yeah... Why do you ask?", me and Connor share a concerned look.
"Well, word is, you two were flirting outside school yesterday then you were both seen leaving the school."
Connor squeaks, "Oh my gosh! Melissa! Did you and the new guy get together? Are you guys like a thing? Oh my gosh! I knew i-".
"No! No. We are not. We were just talking. I didn't even know that he left school after we talked."
Penny looks at me, "Good. So you wouldn't mind it if I asked him if he maybe wanted to hang out?" I glance over at Connor, not knowing what to say. He shrugs and I look back at Penny.
"No. I would not mind it at all.", she sighs in relief. I can tell that that's what she wanted to hear. I smile as we all head to our first hours. Over the announcements in first hour, the school announced that today anybody who was in Mrs. Kelly's Pottery class for fifth hour, Miss Standfield's World History for fifth hour, or in Mr. Becker's class for fifth hour English, would be having fitness exams today. Great. That was me.
Mr. Becker was a pain to have as a teacher. Especially during fitness exams. I remember last year when he caught me and Penny talking to Connor when we were supposed to be split from the boys and he had us all run two miles around the track. Ugh. I did NOT want that to happen again. The rest of the day up until fifth hour went on for what seemed like forever. When the bell rang for us to head over to fifth hour, I found a sign on our class door stating,
"Mr. Becker's fifth hour:
Please report to the gym"I made my way to the girls locker room connected to the gym and changed into my P.E. clothes. The coach blew the whistle, indicating for us to get outside and onto the track field. Me and Penny found each other after I got finished. She was still in line so we couldn't talk yet. I started roaming around when suddenly I got this raging headache. I felt dizzy and made my way across the parking lot to the bathrooms to splash water on my face. When I got there, I bent down to get a drink from the fountain. The water was cold and refreshed my throat but my head only got worse. I looked up and nearly screamed but a hand covered my mouth.
"Calm down. It's me."
I looked up only to see Andrew's eyes staring into mine. He removed his hand from my mouth and I wiped my mouth with my hand for no other reason than to maybe piss him off. When he touched me, my headache was a migraine. When he removed his hand it immediately went away. I was so confused. Why was my head being so stupid? I realized that we were really close and I, again, found myself backing up. Only to find, for the second time, that I was trapped. My back hit the wall and Andrew just smiled at me.
"Hey.", he smirked.
What the hell? Who does he think he is? I go to push him away so that I'm not slowly getting smushed into a wall but he grabs my hand and folds his own around it.
"What the hell!?" I raise my hand and slap him across the face.
He actually seems surprised that I slapped him. I bit down on my lip, knowing that I just slapped him when his hand was around my injured one. He had involuntarily squeezed my poor hand when I slapped him. I tried not to cry out at the pain that was drowning my hand. He released my hand but didn't move any further away from me.
"What's wrong?", he asks.
"Um. Are you serious? You pin me to a wall and hold my hand then ask ME what's wrong?" He remains to have a confused look on his face.
"Sorry..." He whispers something to himself and even though he's right next to me, I still can't make out what he says. He looks into my eyes again, causing my headache to get even worse. His face changes to a look of anger and confusion mixed into one. I look back at him, waiting for him to move. He stares into my eyes again, this time moving a fallen piece of hair and tucking it behind my ear. I can't help but blush and look away. My headache turns into a migraine once again and I can feel my vision blur when I look away from him. My head starts spinning but he lifts my chin up with one hand and makes me look into his eyes again which causes the pain to go away for the smallest second. He smiles, revealing a row of perfectly white teeth and starts pulling my face to his. My headache is completely gone now. I close my eyes on instinct and then hear someone's voice.
"Melissa?", I suddenly realize where I am and what I was about to do and turn to see Penny on the brink of tears. I start to say wait but she's already gone. I move myself away from Andrew and turn to run after Penny but suddenly my headache returns, my vision blurs, and everything goes pitch black.
