Faking Fine

I open my eyes and squint at the bright sun. I sit up in my bed, not wanting to ever leave it. I had convinced my mom yesterday to let me stay. Only problem is that if it happens again, I'm leaving to go back to the city with my dad. I can't let this happen again. If it does, I have to make sure whoever I'm with knows not to tell anybody or take me to a hospital.

I sigh and hurry to get dressed then make my way downstairs. I find a note stating my mother is gone to, yet another, job interview. I grab my bag and skip breakfast. As soon as I'm out the door, I see Connor pulling up in his red Ferrari. I chuckled to myself. He needs a new car. Preferably one that's safer. He waves so I wave back. I don't know what's wrong with me today. It's hard to feel... anything really? My headache has gone away and is yet to return since my whole fainting episode. I'm not sure whether or not I should tell someone. Or Connor for that matter. I look up and he's looking at me.

"What?", I question. He scoffs then reaches over and buckles my seatbelt.

"Seriously Melissa, have you heard a word I've said?" He laughs at me spacing out then starts the car. Once we get to the school, Penny is waiting for Connor at the gate. She rolls her eyes at something, maybe me, but then starts heading to the car. Me and Connor exchange a look. She stops just shy of us then looks at me.

"Ok. Connor has convinced me to forgive you. I mean, I kind of think I over-reacted. You're my best friend and-", Connor interrupts with a cough. We both laugh and she continues, "One of my best friends, she corrects, "And I should've asked you if you liked him too. If you like him then go ahead. I think this cute guy Jason likes me anyway." She giggles with Connor and waits for my answer.
