Chapter 31: Time and Place

From the car window, I glanced down to see our fingers intertwined with each other. I glanced up to my left and saw my beautiful wife's face, leaning on my shoulder as she slept. I immediately smiled.

Kate was the best thing that ever happened to me. My countless accomplishments and even my successful multi-million deals could not compare to the happiness she brought into my life since I met her.

We had a busy day at Nanay's house. When we woke up this morning, we had a really interesting breakfast. My wife told me that it was Nanay's tradition to have a Christmas tree inspired breakfast on a Christmas day, wherein everything on the table was green. We had veggies, green grapes, green pancakes, and cereals. Kate's family was very creative in cooking. After breakfast, we did some harvesting in their backyard. They had different fruits and veggies planted, which I was greatly impressed. Then Kate cooked our lunch, and it was the best part of my day watching her skillfully cook in the kitchen. We, then, spent the afternoon playing games and chatting. I got to know her family more. They never made me feel like an outcast. They made sure my needs were attended and that I would not get bored. As I talked to Nanay and Kaila, I knew in that moment that I was blessed to be part of their family.

Kate and I had a busy but fun day. No wonder she fell asleep a few moments after we sat on the car to go back to our own home. I planted a kiss on her head and squeezed her hand gently before I stared back at the window of the car.

When the car stopped in front of our house, I was about to wake her up, but I stopped myself before I could tap her. She was in deep sleep, and I would hate to wake her up. Therefore, I slowly reached for her head to support it while I repositioned myself, so I could carry her. I carried her in a bridal position and walked upstairs. I was glad that my wife was not heavy to carry. Her lean body made it easier for me to carry her up the stairs.

I remembered one time when she told me how sexy and beautiful were my staff in Italy. I sensed some jealousy in her voice. If only she knew that even the hottest supermodel in the world could not make my heart beat faster like the way she could. There might be many gorgeous women in the world but for me, she's the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen.

I stopped in front of her bedroom door. I had to turn to my side, so my hand could reach and turn the knob while still carrying her. When I successfully opened the door, I entered her room and walked towards her bed. I gently laid her down. I breathed out some air of relief when I managed to lay her down without waking her up. I removed her shoes and covered her with a blanket. After, I leaned forward to kiss her good night. She only moved a little but still asleep.

I took a glance around her room. It was clean and organized. I liked it. That's one of the things I liked about her, she's very neat when it comes to her stuff, just like me.

I started feeling tired, so I went out of her room and went straight to my bedroom. I took a quick shower then put on my pajamas. I was about to climb into my bed when my phone rang. I picked up my phone from my desk and answered the call.

"Hello, Mom."

"Hello, anak! How was your day with your in-laws?" she asked with her jolly voice.

"It was fun and interesting. How about yours and dad?"

"I'm glad you did have fun on your first Christmas with them. They are wonderful people. Anyways, your dad and I spent the day at your Aunt Jaynie's house. It was her turn to throw a Christmas lunch party for the entire family. Your relatives missed you, and they wanted to meet Kate, but I told them that you were at your wife's side of the family. Maybe next year you both can join us, so Kate could meet the rest of the clan."
