Tanz's POV
I woke up to Rod laying besides me. Everyone was still sleeping. Thank goodness he had kept his hands off of me at night, I can't stand when people touch me when I sleep. I can't believe I agreed to letting him sleep next to me while sharing the same blanket. He could be a murderer, he was a mutant. Why was I so paranoid about Clay and Rod while everyone slept peacefully and had no thoughts of them being dangerous? Protect the girls. Protect the girls. Wait no protect yourself, and the girls. And maybe Sal, I could trust Sal. Protect the girls, yourself, and Sal. Don't fully trust Clay and Rod. All these thoughts dangerously rushed through my mind. I was constantly paranoid and worried. I was the oldest, always like a mother. Diamond and Aqua were both really responsible and careful but I still always had the urge to protect them. They were still young and so was I, we had already been through so much... Maybe even too much.
I laid my head back down on my bag I was currently using as a pillow. I stared at the back of Rod's light brown shaggy hair. He was tall and built exactly like Clay, well considering they were created alike with a strong build and thick muscles and of course there grey eyes. They had different features which were nothing alike. Clay looked more like a jock while Rod looked like he could be a model. As I looked closer I saw that Rod had a funny looking mark on his neck. Where had I seen that before? I'm pretty positive I saw that symbol somewhere! It was a few shades darker than his light skin, it looked like it could be a birthmark but it was in such a perfect shape it would be impossible for it to be natural. It was an O with a horizontal arrow through the center. I stared at it till my eyes started to play tricks on me and I had to look away. Rod started to shift and rolled over so his face was facing me. I closed my eyes and pretended to be sleeping just in case he woke up and saw me staring at him. It was an old trick I used to do when my mother would come and wake me up, even though I had been a wake for a while I just laid in bed so I wouldn't have to help out with breakfast or help clean. And when she would come into my room I would have closed my eyes and then pretended that she actually woke me up by yawning and stretching my arms. It usually worked and then I wouldn't have gotten yelled at for not helping out while everyone else was because I was "sleeping". I miss being woke up by my mother or my little sister jumping at the feet of my bed.
Rod started to mumble which made me laugh. He slowly opened his eyes and saw me laughing.
"What are you laughing at?" He said In between a yawn stretch.
"Sorry you were just mumbling something and it made me giggle." I said with a wide grin.
"I know how to really make you giggle." He said with confidence.
"Ok try me." I replied
"Ok... Here's a joke. What did the robot say to the centipede?"
I paused and shrugged. I had no idea.
"Stop being a centipede! Get it because the robot ain't got no arms."
I gave him an extremely confused look and laughed at how stupid and confusing the joke was.
"Sorry I know that sucked mutant humor plus I've never talked to a girl in my whole life."
"Really how come?"I asked.
"Well considering we were locked up and put in endless training we never had the chance to see them. Other older mutants who had been out of the base would tell us about them, and how they had soft skin, long hair, and always smelled sweet. But other than that we were clueless so I'm sorry if Clay and I come off weird we just aren't used to this. Geneith only believed in men mutants he made sure when we were created we were males." He said embarrassed.
"Don't worry I can't judge you for that. You were born into that, same as the girls and I ." I said with a chuckle while pointing at my eyes.
We both started laughing. I realized that this was the first time I had actually laughed in a very long time and the laugh was real.
"Ok here's another joke... What is a bee with a bad hair day?"
"Hmmm. Let me think... Oh yea! A frizzBEE!" This joke reminded me of when I was little we always used to tell it to each other and thought it was the funniest joke ever. The memory was bittersweet.
I laughed a little but the old memory pained me. We talked a little about our pasts and feelings. His wound looked a lot better and the marks on his face were almost healed and some where fading. His stab was right above his waist line. He didn't complain of any internal pain so we figured his organs luckily didn't get in the way of the knife. His stab was still open and pretty deep and around 3 inches long. I started to think of Aqua's also wounded hand and how Sal had it all stitched up. Then it hit me Sal probably packed the needle and thread. As I was examining the gash I noticed it probably wouldn't heal on its own and that it might get infected if we left it open and exposed to germs.
"What's your idea on needles?" I asked as I put my hand on his abs inspecting his wound.
"Not very fond of them but then again who is?"
With that I got up and told him to stay laying down. I walked over to Sal who was sleeping with his biceps curled around my little cousin. With one slap to the face he was awake and gave me a "What the heck was that for look" I asked for the needle and thread and he rummaged through his bag and found them and threw it at me.
"You'll need this too." He said handing me the bottle of rubbing alcohol.
He returned the bag under his head and laid back down cuddling with Aqua. I whispered him a thank you and ran back to Rod.
I threaded the needle and tied it. I had never stitched someone up or anything medical besides using bandaids I had no idea what I was doing. How hard could it be though it was just like sewing... Right?
I rubbed his skin with the liquid and he winced but it was doing something to help otherwise why did Sal use it on Aqua. I was really nervous and didn't know where to start. Rod could sense this and took the needle from me and plunged it into his skin. I almost gagged but I had to do it I went back and forth piercing his bloody skin until I had reached the end then I went back down again putting in a few tight ones just In case. I tied and knotted the last stitch and cut the string with one of Diamonds knifes. My stitching didn't look half bad I was proud, his skin was bleeding a little and my hands had his blood on them but it wasn't horrible i noticed his blood was darker than I've ever seen before. I took a piece of cloth ripped it and soaked it with the rubbing alcohol and cleaned up my hands and his wound. He was very strong and only winced at the pain three times. He was attractive and it was nice for me to see him without a shirt on while I was practically fiddling with his abs. We flipped the healing leaves over to the other side and wrapped them inside the white cloth we used to wrap around his waist. He thanked me with a giant hug and flirty smile. I was glad to help. He looked much more relaxed now and didn't even bother putting his shirt back on, things were looking good right now. Everyone was happy and in decent health. And even better I wasn't the fifth wheel anymore...Maybe this group could have three couples? What do i have to loose? Especially if we weren't guaranteed a future.
