Zoey

It felt weird to be sleeping in the east dorms. Firstly, mostly witches slept here since there was a coven. They all stared at me with curiosity and dirty looks at the same time. I wanted to snap at all of them, but I was too exhausted too. I wish Bri was here. Or Perry. The only witches I trusted. Dem was busy with his parents and siblings, catching up on life. Chase was supposed to be watching me right about now, but he was nowhere to be found.

I wanted to do something fun, not waste my time here. I stared at the wooden walls. I needed a hobby that's what. A witch walked into the room I was in. Her amethyst eyes focused on mine. Her blonde long hair was pulled into a low ponytail. She wore a black robe that was lightly tied around her waist. She was willowy and tall and she just oozed power. She looked just like a witch. Well a stereotypical one.

"Hi, you're Zoey?" She asked.

I nodded, getting up from my seat. "And you are?"

"Ariisa, but Arii for short," Arii half smiled and turned to the bookshelf on the side. She grabbed some books and walked towards the couch, settling down and opening one. "You're the vampire that everyone is talking about?" Her eyes darted to me as she asked that.

My brow raised. So everyone thought it was me? I sighed. "Yes."

"You didn't kill any of those girls in your free will," Ariisa turned to me, her eyes cutting straight to mine again, "if you did, I would know."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I mumbled.

Her hand opened up. Purple and green smoke rose from the palm of her hand. It flew up up up towards the ceiling then evaporated. "I'm a necro. If you killed those girls, I would smell death and hatred on you. Most vampires smell like death, but the ones who kill for fun are full of hatred. Sure, you smell like death, but not hate."

I sniffed my arm and my eyebrows slammed down in annoyance. "So I stink?"

"Not percisely. It's a witch thing," Arii smirked.

I sat back down on the couch and took a deep breath. This whole thing was crazy. Why did I wake up on the porch? Did I kill those girls? Even if I did, how come I didn't remember?

Frantic knocking sounded from the front door. Arii rose up and walked towards the door. Chase stumbled in, eyes wide and crazed. "Oh thank god."

I stood up. "What? What happened?"

"Caterina is dead."

Arii narrowed her eyes at Chase. "Dead?"

"She was found in the infirmary dead. Cassian is now head of family unless you challenge him," Chase explained quickly, grabbing my arm and pulling me up, "come we have to go and challenge him!"

Arii wrapped her long fingers around my arm. She pulled me closer to her. "She supposed to stay here."

"Well, this is vampiric matters, witch. I suggest you mind your business," Chase snapped.

Arii leaned towards me. "If you must go, just be careful,"

"With?"

Her eyes pulsated and flashed white. "Him."

Chase frowned and pulled me out the door. We quickly made our way across campus towards the entrance gate. There was Cassian kneeling on the floor, clutching himself. Chase stalked forward and grabbed the front collar of Cassian's shirt. "Get up. Zoey challenges you for head of family."
