Once Upon a Girl

XXIX - save the world

As I try to stand up to the creature before me, I falter, already feeling myself weakening. It is the embodiment of terror. My heart pounding, my head aching, I again fear that all is lost.

But I hear someone running towards me. As Giggles reaches out to me and tries to grasp me with his fiery claws, I am knocked to the ground by someone pushing me out of the monster's way.

Squinting, I look up and see Harry Styles struggling in Giggles' claws; he has been taken in my place. The pop star disintegrates as the beast tightens its grip. Harry Styles has sacrificed himself... pour moi????

"We're here for you, Sunita!" I hear mother Kim yell. Although I can't see my friends through all the smoke and fire, I know they are all cheering me on.

Suddenly, Giggles tries to crush me under his monstrous foot. I roll out the way just in time and the annoying neighbour, Kitty, helps me to my feet.

"You have to win!" she begs of me. She is crushed by Giggles.

I can't let anyone else die on my watch. Covering my mouth to avoid breathing in the smoke, I stumble through the debris of the collapsing house in order to get outside. If I can lure the creature away from the burning building, maybe everyone else will be safe.

I have almost made it to the front door when I turn around and see Giggles' beastly, glowing eyes glaring at me through the smoke. I scream, and Tsunderplane flies into his face, causing him to growl. Tsunderplane is luckily able to fly away before there's a chance of it being killed. 

"Hugs and kisses... that's the last time I help you... idiot."

Having been bought a little extra time, I throw open the front door and run into the garden. I gasp for the clean air. The front of the house collapses as Giggles walks through it, allowing the smoke to rise into the sky. The path is clear for everyone to escape the burning ruins, although I see that sadly, that one irrelevant guy from astrology club has been crushed by a coffee table that came from outer space.

I run further away, hoping the fiery creature will leave the crowd alone. However, despite my efforts, everyone follows me into the open field I have led Giggles to. Even though many of them knew me for little over 24 hours, they must really love me. Well, except Tim Curry, who rides his camel into the sunset. I thought it was nighttime, but he somehow does it anyway?

Giggles and I stand facing each other, tensions building. Then, Adam leaps in between us in his stunning outfit and kicks Giggles with his stilettos, and his legs. The beast throws a punch but misses, leaving himself open for another heel attack. Adam thinks he has won, but the monster unexpectedly turns to him and breathes fire at the cool guy. He burns like a torch in the darkness, and the dark creature of the night smiles as Adam's life is ending.

"Sunita..." he moans as I try to fan him with that one frozen pizza from chapter 19. "Don't worry about me... if you don't act soon, everyone will be dead."

He dies beside me, and I sigh. Why does everyone in this story have such repetitive dialogue? I mourn for a couple of seconds but there isn't time for anything more. Luckily, Giggles doesn't immediately try to attack me as he is too busy trying to stop Zac and Donna from throwing random objects at him.

Oh, hey, the pizza cooked in the flames! I toss the pizza onto the ground and Giggles begins to eat it. As he is distracted, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson find the music inside themselves. They emit sound waves so cacophonic, the creature roars due to the torture. He eats the singers quickly to remove the cause of the pain, but it does not eliminate the symptom. He has been deafened by the valiant efforts of One Direction.

"NOOOOOO!" screams Niall. His friends have all died trying to protect me. Instead of being angry, though, he feels as though he should do the same...

"Hey, beautiful," he says to Giggles. The latter turns to him in confusion. "You're stunning," Niall continues. "Come here."

Giggles looks at me, shrugs, and bends down so he's face to face with Niall. Niall pulls out an Irish sword and thrusts it deep into Giggles' eye. The monster roars and bites my brother's head off, and the body topples to the ground. I scream. Giggles pulls the sword out from his eye; now, not only is he deaf, but he is partially blind. Too bad he can no longer see J-Lo shaking what her momma gave her, cheering us on.

Mother Kim and Daddy Jensen weep over my brother's body, but I have no time for crying now. Their toxic tears burn Giggles and corrode the essence of his being, because apparently that can happen.

Now, the attacks rain on Giggles like a storm of judgement. Trixabelle transforms into one million birds and they peck at him. Reece throws Lily at him, and she flies through the air like a cannonball and bruises his face; it's a good thing they've been practicing for the annual girlfriend throwing championships. Stacy, Tracy and Garlic Girl tell him the latest high school gossip to distract him from his mission to obliterate the universe.

It's not over yet. As I look around, everyone tries their hardest to overcome the creature. Mettaton dances all over the monster, tickling him to the point of pain. Miss Terry harnesses the power of the stars to drain his power away. Mrs Margherita bores him with an Italian class. The creature is growing weaker by the second.

And then I realise. We created Giggles. All our doubts, all our fears, they manifested into this being we thought we couldn't overcome. There's a Giggles in all of us. However, all it takes is a little courage and teamwork to get past any obstacle we could possibly face. And then you learn morals and life lessons and stuff.

Finally, Giggles collapses with a mighty roar. It looks as though the monster is defeated. He falls to his knees as everyone backs away.

It appears to be over.

But he uses the last of his energy to grab Niall's sword and plunge it into my heart. I close my eyes and brace myself as I see him try to thrust it into my insides, knowing there's nothing I can do. 

The impact never comes.

I open my eyes and in front of me is a dying Donna.

"Sunita... I..." she says. "I never told you until now, but... I don't think you're a miserable creature, really. Actually, you're kind of amazing, just the way you are. You're a good witch, but more importantly, you're a good friend. And maybe even something... something more. Sunita, I love... I- I love you."

She falls into me, the sparkle leaving her eyes. I close her eyes like they do in movies and shed a single tear.

Giggles' lifeless body sinks into the ground.

"Donna, NO!" screeches Zac as he runs up to her and tries to give her the kiss of life. Nothing happens. He picks up her body and carries it away, refusing to make eye contact with me. I may be in love with Zac, but with the help of Donna I have ruined his life, and I don't know how I can ever make it up to him. It was a one sided love, and what he truly wanted is now gone.

Other than this, everyone is overjoyed. The world is safe once more. The dead will not be forgotten, and the living can finally move on with their lives.

However, I know there's someone that still needs to be saved.
