Chapter 14: An unexpected confession

[Natsu P.O.V]

I sprinted toward the town like it was the end of my life. Well, technically it is--wait..what does that mean?

As I ran, the fresh air went through my nose, until I smelt gas, or maybe smoke? I stopped in the middle of the path and sniffed the air. For some reason I have a strong nose and hearing. I continued to sniff, but, "Achoo!!" I rubbed my nose.

"Bless you."

I turned around and saw Gray with Gajeel, Jellal, Erza, Levy, and Lissana with him.

"T-thanks Gray." I replied.

"No problem, dude. Oh, and, why did you stop?"

"I smell smoke."

"Huh?" Gray replied like I was an idiot. "I dont see fire anywhere."

"I swear. I smell smoke."

"Well then, lets go to the town and see it for ourselves." Erza said.

"Alright."

We ran toward the town and I saw gray clouds.

"Smoke!" I exclaimed in horror. "C'mon!" I said, as I ran faster.

We arrived at the town, and I thought I was back in my dimension. The houses were on fire, roofs were collapsing one after another, and...I saw a maid running around rescuing people.
"What the hell happened?" Gray asked.

"I-I have no idea, but Lucy! Wheres Lucy!!??" I said, about to tear up. Then, all of a sudden the ground in front of us broke and left a huge hole on the surface. The maid I saw rescuing people appeared in front of us.

"Are you the princess' friends?" The maid asked.

"Yes, yes we are." I spoke.

"I see. Why are you here?"

"To see Lucy." I answered.

"Princess? She should still be stuc-" The maid paused. "Princess is still stuck in the town! Ill be back." Then the maid went back into the ground.

"Lucy, please be ok." I whispered.

We sat on the ground and waited for the maid to come back.

"I-im back." The maid said.

I was back on my feet in less than 3 seconds. I turned to look at the maid, but Lucy wasn't there. "W-where's Lucy..?"

"This was all I found." The maid sadly said. She opened her hand toward me, and it showed a golden key.

"I remember Lucy carrying those keys, but she didn't tell me about them." I frowned.

"Thats because the princess was protecting us."

"What do you mean?"

Erza, Jellal, Gray, Gajeel, Levy, and Lissana stood next to me because they found interest in our conversation.

"A long time ago, we were just ordinary yellow keys founded by Lucy. She would always talk about the 12 zodiacs to her parents, and that all of them were her favorite. Then, she would say that us, 12 yellow keys, represented them. Later at night, the 12 keys shined and shimmered, we weren't just ordinary yellow keys no more, we were gold. And, her silver keys were also like us, but because of Lucy's kindness and her imagination we became her servan-- I mean friends." The maid smiled.

"So, you guys were just regular keys with no special meaning?" Gray said. The maid then nodded.

"Technically she created you guys with her imagination?" Erza questioned.
