He has a fight with Darry
He sat in the lot, crying his eyes out, and I just stood there for a minute, not knowing now go comfort him. His head was in his hands, his body was wracked with sobs. He was sitting on a log, and I plopped down next to him. I know he noticed, but he didn't even move as I put a comforting arm around him.
"Ponyboy?" I asked. He leaned his head on my shoulder. I didn't say anything for a few minutes, until his sobs turned into soft, quiet tears.
"What happened?" I asked, knowing he'd want to talk about it. He took a deep breath before speaking.
"I f-for-forgot to do my English homework... again. It was the second time this term. Mr. Harty was getting nervous so he... he sent a note home to make sure everything was okay. He wasn't mad at me or anything... But Darry was. He yelled at me for 10 minutes straight about how if I wanted to get into a good college, I'll have to work a lot harder." It wasn't the first time they'd had this conversation, Darry was always on his younger brother about being the first -and only of- the three brothers to go to college. For a 14 year old boy, it was a lot to handle.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, giving him a hug. Once he was calmed down, he stood up.
"I should probably get going before they worry where I am," he said, referring to his brothers. I nodded.
"Do you want me to walk you?" He smiled his response, taking my hand as we walked back to his house. Since he was grounded and couldn't have people over, we stopped on the porch.
"Y/N?" He asked.
"Hmm?"
"Thank you." He kissed my cheek before walking inside. He gave me one last smile before closing the door.
