He gets you pregnant
"I'm gonna have to propose to Y/N," I told my brothers one afternoon. We were sitting on the couch, watching TV when I said it. Ponyboy gasped, and Darry looked like his eyes were about to pop out of his head.
"You're what?!" He exclaimed. I repeated myself.
"Proposing."
"Why?" Ponyboy asked. I shrugged.
"Why not?" I responded.
"Because you're only 16?" Darry suggested. I glared at him.
"That's beside the point. I love her," I said. He didn't take that.
"You can't love her until she's 18?" He asked. I didn't know how to respond. Of course I could... would, but I needed to do this now.
"Darry, she's pregnant," I declared. Hopefully that would make him understand. He choked, looking angry and scared and disappointed.
"Say something, please," I begged, when a full minute had passed with no reply.
"I can't believe you-" he started. But I cut him off.
"We used a condom. It just... didn't work." It was true. We had used protection so this didn't happen, but it did anyways, and she didn't want to get rid of it.
"So she's keeping it? Will she still be going to school?" Darry asked. I nodded.
"Yes she's keeping it. And I need to be there to support the both of them. And until the baby's born she will be. She wants to graduate," I explained. He nodded, still not looking thrilled.
"How did she tell you?" Ponyboy asked. I smiled.
"She called me to come over earlier today. And when I got there she told me we needed to talk. So we sat down and she looked me right in the eye and said it," I told Ponyboy. I didn't mention the fact that I cried when I put my hand on her stomach. It wasn't even the size of a peanut yet, our baby, but it was still ours. Forever.
Which is what I told her.
"Will you still love me?" she asked.
"I'll never stop loving you. I'll be there forever," I had responded. Then I kissed her, and she cried a little bit, telling me about the plan she had. She'd go to school as long as she possibly could, and I'd work to save us some money. Then she'd drop out when he or she's born, and go back when they're at daycare age. I figured it was a good enough idea, if we could figure out how to support the little thing.
"We're a little young," I told my brothers, as well as her when we had talked, "but I'm excited."
