I ran and ran, not knowing where I was going as a burning rage took hold of me. I’d never felt anything like this before. When I came to a stop, I gasped when I noticed where I was. The graveyard. Looking around anxiously I cursed. I hated graveyards with a passion. I started to back away, until I felt a warm sensation beginning at the tips of my fingers. Looking down in confusion, my fingers had begun to glow. Suddenly that burning rage filled me again and I was being pulled towards a certain grave. I tried to stop myself, but I had absolutely no control over my body.
The ground began to shake under my feet as I drew near the grave. I was even trembling at what was happening. Was I the one doing all of this?! I tried again to stop myself, but I’d only hesitated before moving forward again.
Finally, I came to a stop in front of the grave my body had been driving me towards. The name on the tombstone in front of me didn’t seem familiar, but my body wanted something from the grave, and it seemed to believe it was going to get it.
Suddenly out of nowhere, 3 bright orbs began dancing above the grave. The circles around me, caressing me and then they came to a stop, forming a line by the name on the stone. They were in order now; blue, green and purple were the order of the orbs. My fingertips began burning in anticipation then, waiting for something to happen.
I held my breath, knowing that something was coming too. The wind seemed angry as well as it swooshed back and forth as the ground trembled. Everything going on was beginning to make me dizzy.
Then, it all came to an abrupt stop; although the grave in front of me seemed to tremble a little more, as if it were trying to communicate with me. Then, a white, misty figure appeared. I squinted my eyes to get a better look.
A gasp left my parted lips as realization hit me full blast. Standing in front of me was a ghost; a real live ghost. I’d done this, I also realized. This couldn’t be happening to me, not after finding out that I’m from a different world, that I have a lover and that we had some prophecy to fulfill! Now I’m a freaking Necromancer as well?! This was not real, I had to be hallucinating all of this. The ghost took a step towards me, reaching out a hand as if to touch me; to reach me. I stumbled back in fear.
I took deep breaths as I tried to calm my heartbeats. The ghost seemed to be stuck where it was because it couldn’t move forward anymore. It tried to call out, but seemed to have no voice. It banged on the empty air in front of it, as if there were some wall there, blocking him from entering this realm.
I couldn’t take any of this anymore, I turned to go, but my body seemed to have a mind of its own. It kept repeating for me to ‘release the soul’. How the hell was I supposed to do that? I could barely even conjure this thing up; my body had done that on its own accord! I turned to leave yet again, but my feet were still rooted in their place. This couldn’t be happening. I was beginning to get ticked off again, not wanting to stay here staring at a ghost all day.
The burning anger returned and I wasn’t in control anymore. I watched in horror as my body walked towards the ghost. He (the ghost) seemed to be relieved as I came closer. My right palm came forward then and he reached for it. When his hand came into contact with mine, it was as if I actually felt him. Shivers ran up and down my body and then he was gone; it was as if he’d vanished into thin air. I gasped and collapsed as all the energy was drained from me.
But I couldn’t just stay here in the graveyard, who knew what could happen. I forced myself to stand and begin to walk back to where Kam was. I needed to talk to her. There seemed to be more to all of this than she had told me to begin with. I couldn’t even come to comprehend how the hell I had the power to see a ghost, to raise a ghost from his/ her grave. It just didn’t seem possible to me. Something seemed wrong to me.
When I made it back to Kam’s, she seemed to be waiting for me. I walked straight up to her, infuriated, but not wanting to overdue to anger, I tried to calm myself.
“What aren’t you telling me Kam?” I said lowly, my voice deadly and vicious. She seemed taken aback by the sound of it, as was I, but I need answers and I needed them now.
“What are you talking about Embry? I thought you just came here to talk about what I’d already told you…?” She stated, almost confused by my sudden fury towards her.
I just stared at her, thinking that maybe she’d tell me something if I did. She finally caved, giving a defeated sigh. “Ok, I might’ve forgotten to tell you that your so called ‘lover’ will be arriving here in 3 days tops.” She said, not looking at me, afraid that it would only make me angrier. Which she was right not to look at me that moment, because that’s exactly what it did to me.
“What the hell Kam! You should’ve told me that before I’d run off! I wouldn’t have to be more pissed than I already am!” She stared at me then, as if what I said really confused her.
“Wait… if you didn’t know about that… then why were you angry?” She asked slowly.
“I can conjure freaking ghosts Kam! What the hell is up with that?!” I raged.
