Myst and Ralf are cheering and running around the small field behind the hideout happily. The field is open with flowers and patches of grass amongst patches of dirt.
The hideout is nested within a forest behind it with the small clearing where we are. It is also open out front. The stone walls are cool to the touch and the archways are wide and tall which are lined with wood.
Ralf pulls out a bronze bow, rank E bow, and an arrow that was slung on his back. He is wearing an outfit similar to Boyd's but one made fit for a boy which has a shoulder plate and tall leather boots. He notches the arrow and aims it at one of the trees lining the field.
"Star, check it out. I have been practicing!"
A bow? But—
He releases the arrow and shoots it passed the tree and into the dark forest behind it. He turns to me with a sad look.
"Ralf! Watch where you fire those things!" Myst calls out loudly.
Papa told me he was not to be firing that bow. He's not good enough yet.
"Sorry...I just want to help. I just want to do something other than sit around doing nothing,"
"Don't think I don't agree, Ralf! But father said so! But I want to be able to use my staves, and maybe tomes!" She quickly approaches Ralf. Ralf's eyes widen.
"Tomes? But those are magic books! Oscar told me to never open those! Those are dangerous for us to mess around with!"
Tomes? Myst wishes to learn magic? Hmm...she wants to become a Sage class, does she?
A smile appears onto my face as I slowly approach the two children. They turn to me, with sad looks in their eyes.
Myst is a Cleric class in training. She can use staves only and she cannot fight. Clerics lack the skills required to wield tomes or any type of weapon. She is just a basic Cleric, who can only wield the basic stave of the E rank, which is the lowest rank for a stave or weapon.
The ranks include E, D, C, B and A, and each weapon has a rank in which the wielder must also have or higher to wield that weapon. Every class has their specific starting ranks and abilities. Your class tells you which weapons you can wield.
So, back to Sages. They can wield both staves and tomes. When you become a Sage from a Cleric, the rank you have for the stave carries over and you gain the ability to use tomes at rank E. Whenever you rank up with a specific ability, you keep that rank even if you change classes but you might not be able to use that ability depending on what class you changed to. The more you use the weapons or staves, your skill increases and eventually your rank will increase.
