Dan Howell couldn't help but squeal in utter delight when he walked into Phil Lester's flat.
It was cute, and just so Phil. Anime merchandise covering the shelves, gaming consoles surrounding the tv, kitchen filled with various random knick knacks like mini stuffed pikachus and even a tiny cactus.
And Dan loved it.
Phil shot him another crooked smile. "Like it?"
Dan only nodded, still taking everything in.
And man, there was a lot to take in.
But then, Phil grabbed Dan's wrist and pulled him down a hallway, leading him to a spare room, bare besides its bed, nightstand, closet and drawers.
"You'll be sleeping here. D-don't worry, it's all clean and stuff, I made sure it was, just for-" Phil stopped his sentence, turning bright red before muttering something along the lines of 'just start unpacking' and rushed out of the room.
The grin never left Dan's face as he unpacked his clothes for the week. Black. Lots of it. Phil always rolled his eyes whenever Dan would answer a skype call, the first words out of his mouth were always,
"Black again, Daniel?"
Dan would always laugh and respond with just the worst replies ever, like 'you know it!' He cringed at his own self quite a bit.
"Dan! Want tea? Coffee? Or are you tired? Because if you're tired or something, that'd be oka-" Dan laughed quietly at Phil's cute nervousness before interrupting him.
"Tea, please!" He called back, then hearing undeniably loud clanking in the kitchen.
Dan looked around the room once more, nodding in approval. He then turned on his heel and walked towards where Phil was.
Phil grinned when Dan walked in. "I still can't believe it. You're literally here. Right in front of me!" Phil looked like a kid on Christmas, and Dan was just as elated.
"I can't believe it either. It's so crazy how about an hour ago we were miles away from each other. Now look at us!" Dan felt himself get giddier with each word he spoke.
"So what do you want to do tonight?" Phil asked him, handing him a cup of tea.
Dan shrugged, taking a sip. "We can make the most of our night by sitting in and drinking a shit ton of tea and eating 12 pounds of food while watching anime or something." He suggested, shrugging his shoulders.
Phil's grin grew wider. "We should make a huge blanket-tent-fort-thingy!" He exclaimed, jumping a little in excitement, spilling his tea in the process.
"Shit." Phil snapped, running over to his counter and grabbing a towel. He got down on his knees and wiped at the floor.
"Don't you wanna- like.. I don't know, make that damp first? You're spreading it all over the floors now, Phil." Dan told him, yelping when Phil flicked the towel at him, spreading tea everywhere.
"Don't tell me how to clean, Daniel. I know what and what not to do." Phil said, rolling his eyes at him.
"I'm just trying to help you, flicking tea at me was not necessary?" Dan replied, narrowing his eyes.
Phil looked up at him again. "Actually, it was necessary? I'm amazing, therefore an amazing cleaner? Screw off?" He said, raising an eyebrow.
Dan was about to spit out another comeback before he realized something and burst out laughing.
Phil scrunched up his nose in confusion, looking incredibly cute. "What?"
"Phil, I literally just got here and we're already arguing over stupid little things."
Phil laughed too, nodding. "Like an old married couple, huh?"
Dan smiled. "Yeah."
They'd stared at each other for a moment, and then Dan could tell that Phil was leaning in, and he started doing it himself.
Before he popped up into Dan's head.
You are a disgrace.
You're disgusting.
Worthless.
So just before their lips met, Dan did the first thing to pop up in his mind to stop it.
Dan Howell coughed.
Right in Phil Lester's face, which was about to kiss him.
Phil let out a startled yelp and backed up, wiping the small amount of spit that had gotten on his face.
And for a moment, Dan swore he saw hurt flash across his face, and even though it was just a split second of it, Dan couldn't help but feel a sharp pain in his chest.
But as soon as that flash of sad came, it left, and Phil was laughing.
"Well sheesh, you okay there Dan? You seem to be a bit.." Phil wiped his face again. "Sick."
Dan nodded awkwardly and faked another cough. "Yeah, just a little bug, I'm good. It should be gone really soon." He choked out, regretting everything that had just happened in those past few minutes.
"Anyways-" Phil immediately changed the subject, which Dan was overly grateful for. "So, giant blanket tent-fort-thingy?"
Dan grinned.
"Giant blanket tent-fort-thingy." Dan said, nodding.
Phil's smile turned into a smirk before replying,
"Perhaps giant blanket tent-fort-thingy will be our always."
