Dan Howell had never felt more unimportant.
He had never felt more empty.
He had never felt more alone.
When Jayden left him, he was just sad. Disappointed. Confused. He's still haunted by his leaving today, but he never had the feeling he was having right at this moment.
He felt cold, even when he was in the warmest places of his apartment. Even when he was buried in piles of blankets, he felt frozen.
Dan sat in the corner of his dingy bathroom, his back pressed against the cold tiles and hands shivering along the lined edges of the cracked bricks and fragments of hope.
What Dan was feeling was the state of raw abandonment, something a human can't experience too much in their life, as it swallows their sanity whole.
Dawn by dusk, Dan felt his reason slipping through his chilling fingers. He laid his head gently on the floor, puffs of the only warmth he had coming from his breath. He would do anything to feel the radiating heat of another by this point. Eyelids fluttering shut, he allowed himself a quick smile. A nice thought crossed his mind.
Maybe I'll be joining others soon.
Maybe if I just wait a little longer.
Maybe.
