Military!Calum had been away for almost 2 years over seas, leaving behind his family including you- his girlfriend of 1 year before his deployment. You knew from the minute you met from literally bumping into each other at a run down book store that you'd be together for a long, long time. You missed him on the daily, some days were a bit easier than others but no one could get rid of the nights you cried to yourself alone in your shared apartment or cried with his mom or sister.
Sending letters were either a constant or would stop out of nowhere depending on his location.

Counting down the days to his arrival, you made the apartment as welcoming as possible as it was still a little empty since you two had gotten it together only months before he left. Of course, you had been busy working full time since money was tight while on your own and the money being sent home sometimes just wasn't enough.

So, there you were. At your job, not just counting down days but the minutes until your shift ended so you could go and have dinner at Calums parents house. It was a usual thing, going there once a week for dinner and reading your letters from Calum to the family and hearing theirs. You finally packed up your things, bidding your co-workers goodbye and to have a good weekend. You walked your way out of the building and into the parking lot, almost missing the small sticky note attached to your windshield.

"Miss me?"

You turned read the note, furrowing your brows as you looked around and saw no one there. Shoving the note into your pocket quickly and being slightly creeped out- you drove to Calums parents as quick as you could, not bothering to change out of your very plain work attired- Black slacks and a white v neck with a small blazer.

You pulled in, rushing up to the door, ready to knock until you saw another sticky note.

"I missed you."

You read it again, ripping it off the door and deciding to just walk in. "Guys? you here?? I got some weirdo leaving notes places and I-"

"Some weirdo? Is that anyway to address your boyfriend?"

The voice rang through your ears, your hands shook and your heart raced as you finished setting down your bag, still clutching the two notes in hand. You had missed that voice, much more than you expected to. You looked up, seeing Calum still in uniform and his family taking videos. Your hand flew to your mouth and the other held onto the tamale table near by to keep you from literally passing out. His smile was still the same, bright as ever and cheeks a little less squishy than normal- you blame that on the lack of proper meals. His build being much larger, he finally had some scruff but not a whole lot and his hair was tucked under his cap.

"C-Calum? Oh my god" You breathed out. Dashing towards him and crashing into his torso. Your arms wrapped around his middle tightly as one hand went to rub at your hair and the other wrapped around your shoulders. You pulled back immediately, grabbing his face in both hands and looking through tear filled eyes.

"It's me baby, I'm home." His voice soothes you as you went back in for another hug, the two of you holding each other as tight as ever.

You spent the night eating dinner as a complete family, yours showed up as well, you discussed his coming home party that was originally planned and explained how the boys would be more than happy to see him earlier.
You got to fall asleep that night in an apartment that felt much more full than before.
