Beth's POV

I drove to the jail. I finally arrived and jumped out of the truck as Jake got Jane and followed me in the doors.

"Ma'am, what do you need?" An officer asked.

"Let me see Matthew Brown." I said demandingly.

"Okay." He said as he led me to a cell with none other than Matt.

"I knew you would come back for me." Matt said smiling.

"Oh, shut up and tell me who the hell is calling me!" I yelled at him.

"I don't know." Matt said sarcastically.

"Don't make me get in this cell and smash your face in." I threatened him.

Jake came running in after me with Jane in his grasp.

"Who is this, princess?" Matt asked.

"Oh shut the hell up and tell me who the hell is calling me!" I told him.

"Not until you come in my cell and kiss me, baby." Matt said.

"Tell. Me. Who. Is. Calling. Me." I demanded.

"Fine... but you won't like it." Matt said.

"Just tell me." I said mad.

"It's your father." He said.

The words hit me like a bus.

"Wait, you said you killed him." I said.

"I tried..." Matt said.

"Damn it!" I yelled.

"Babe, let's go." Jake said.

"Excuse you but she is my babe." Matt said.

I gave him a death stare.

"Show me your scar I gave you." I said.

Matt lifted his shirt showing the scar from the knife.

"Yeah, that will happen again if I hear that come out of your mouth again." I said as I followed him out of the jail.

I ran out of the jail and fell to the ground. While on the ground, I hit the concrete hard with my fists.

"Beth, stop!" Jake yelled as he ran after me.

I was stopped by Jake grabbing my fists and holding them.

"Beth, your going to hurt yourself." Jake said to me as he examined my bloody hands.

"What's the point? I'm going to get hurt anyway." I said.

"That's what he wants." Jake said as he looked into my eyes.

I looked in Jake's eyes then to my bloody hands.

"Let's go to the hospital." He said.

Jake helped me into the passenger and Jane in the back. Jake got in the driver's seat and started the truck. He drove until we reached the hospital. Jake helped Jane and I out of the truck and in the doors.

"Ma'am, we need a room for Beth Jones." Jake said.

"Okay, right this way." The lady said.

She showed me to a room and Jake and Jane followed me in.

"A doctor will be right with you." The lady said as she closed the door and left.

Jake walked over to the bed I was sitting on and put his arm around my back.

"Hi, Miss Jones. I'm Doctor Werin." The doctor says.

"Hi." I said.

"So what happened to your hands?" The doctor said.

"I...um... fell on the concrete." I said.

"Okay, but those look worse than just falling on the concrete." The doctor said.

I looked at my hands and felt his eyes on me.

"Okay... well let's look at those hands." The doctor said.

He examined my hands while I sat there looking at Jake who was smiling at me. I smiled back at him and rolled my eyes.

"Okay, I'm going to have to pick out these bits of concrete out of your hands." He said as he grabbed some tweezers.

He started pulling out the pieces of concrete and put them on a tray.

"Okay, now we just have to bandage these up." The doctor said as he grabbed some bandages.

He started to wrap the bandage around the palm of my hand and secured it for both hands.

"There, all better." The doctor said smiling.

"Thanks." I said as I looked at my bandaged hands.

After we were done at the hospital, we got in Jake's truck.

"I told you that you would hurt yourself." Jake said jokingly.

"Oh, shut up." I said jokingly back.

Jake smiled as he started the truck.

"So, Beth, how did you fall on your hands at the jail?" Jane asked.

"I tripped." I said lying not wanting her to worry.

"Oh." Jane said.

I looked out the window seeing so many happy people playing with their children or being with friends.

"Anna." I said.

"What?" Jake asked.

"Nothing. Just give me your phone." I said to Jake.

He handed me his phone and I dialed her number. (I remember it since I have called her so much.) It was ringing until she picked up.

Jake?
No, Anna this is Beth.
Beth?
Yeah, I got away.
Oh my gosh. Are you okay?
Not really.
Oh.
Where are you?
I'm in Michigan with my family.
Oh, I'm in Iowa.
Dang, wrong time to go to Michigan then.
Yeah, I guess we can meet up when you get back.
Yeah, sorry.
No, it's fine.
Okay, well I have to go.
Okay, bye.
Bye.

I hung up and gave the phone back to Jake.

"I was going to invite Anna over when she came back." Jake said as he grabbed the phone from my hand.

"Oh." I said.

"Are you okay?" Jake asked.

"No, I don't want to stay here. I want to go somewhere far away from here." I said.

"How about we go out to eat so we don't have to be at that hotel?" Jake asked.

"Sure." I said excited to be away from that hotel.

Jake smiled at my expression and drove.

"We're here." Jake said as he pulled into my favorite pizza place.

"Oh my gosh, this is my favorite place to eat." I said smiling.

"I know, that's why I picked it." Jake said smiling back at me.

Jake helped me out of the truck and then helped Jane. I grabbed his hand not caring that it hurt.

"Doesn't that hurt?" Jake asked.

"Yes." I said smiling at him.

He smiled at me as he took his hand back and put his arm around my waist.
