I Gave Up (Midorima Shintarō)

He regretted it. He regretted not trying harder.

She regretted it. She regretted giving up too easily.

"Shin-chaaan," you yelled, running at him before crashing into his back. A small 'oof' came from him as he tried to catch himself from toppling forward. He sighed, "[First Name], I've told you before not to do that."

You giggled, "Soorrryyy, you just looked so vulnerable."

Midorima turned away and continued walking. You pouted at his actions and latched onto his arm. "So, how was your day?"

After hearing the horoscope for Cancers and [Zodiac Sign], Midorima went to the regular store to get his lucky item. He came out of the store with two lucky items instead. Unknowingly and accidentally, Midorima had bought the lucky item for [Zodiac Sign], too. He sighed. He still wasn't able to shake off the habit of buying your lucky item along with his.

It looks like he was just going to have to carry two "lucky" items today.

You opened the door to see Midorima. There was a small piggy bank in one hand and a toy bird in the other. He extended the the arm that had the toy bird in his hand towards you.

"It's your lucky item for the day, nanodayo," he said.

"Oh..." you took the toy bird from his hand and smiled at him. "Thank you, Shin-chan!"

He pushed up his glasses, "I only got it for you because [Zodiac Sign] was placed last today."

"Aw, I know you care, Shin-chan."

"Whatever, let's just go."

You walked to school alone. And whenever you saw something cool, you would turn to the side, planning to tell Midorima about it, but remembering that he wasn't there. You couldn't shake off the habit of telling him everything that was on your mind. Without him around, you kept everything to yourself.

You poked Midorima's cheek, determined to get him to say the words "I love you" in public. Midorima drank a few gulps from his water bottle and turned towards you. "What is it?" he asked.

You scooted closer to him on the bleachers and leaned close to his face. "Come on, Shin-chan. Say you love me," you said.

"Yeah, Shin-chan! Tell your girlfriend you love her!" Takao, who had somehow walked up to you unnoticed, said. He captured the attention of the whole basketball team who were practicing, though they acted like they didn't heae and continued with what each were doing.

Midorima blushed as he pushed your face away. "I-I don't, nanodayo."

You registered his words for a while before a lool of hurt crawled up on your features. "You don't...love me?" you asked.

"N-No! It's not that--" you interrupted Midorima.

"Then, I don't love you either, you stupid tsundere carrot!" you yelled at him before running out of the gym. Now, that caught the entire attention of the basketball team.

Takao looked at Midorima. "You know, that wasn't cool, Shin-chan. You should go apologize to her."

Midoirma pushed up his glasses, "I know, nanodayo."

You were walking beside Midorima, but none of you said anything. Somehow, when walking to school, you ended up walking next to each other. But even if he was beside you, and you him, it was like a wall was separating you two.

You can't get to him, and he can't get to you.

You completely blocked each other out.

The next day, Midorima didn't even bother to pick you up at your house and walk with you to school, knowing that you probaby wouldn't accept. He still bought you your lucky item though, planning to give it to you along with an apology.

He never got the chance to, though.

You avoided him the entire day, not wanting to listen or hear him. You've had enough of his tsundereness, tired of all the times he said he didn't love you in public.

While walking down the hall, you weren't watching where you were going and rammed straight into someone. "Oh, sorr-" you stopped when you saw who it was. A pair of emerald green eyes stared down at you, and you proceeded to go the other direction when he grabbed your arm.

"Let go of me, Shin-chan," you tried to wrench your arm out of his grip, but he held on firmly. "Can you just listen to me, nanodayo?" he said.

"No!" you tugged your arm back and he let go of your arm, causing you to stumble back, shocked that he actually let go.

"This isn't going to work out," he said.

"Wait what...?"

"[Last Name], I think we should start going on our separate ways."

You couldn't help but wince when he called you by your last name. "Fine, Midorima."

You turned you head to the side.

Midorima turned his head to the other.

You didn't look at each other at all.

"[First Name], I gave up too easily."

"Shintaro, I should've learned to tolerate more..."

"We could've made it work out, but we didn't."
