~Angst~
You couldn't believe your ears. The Kagami Taiga was asking you to be his friend. Of course it wouldn't be a real friendship, though. He told you that it was just temporary until he found someone permanent to settle with. You still blindly agreed.
The Seirin basketball team had found you out through Kiyoshi, a very good friend of yours. Thus, making it easy to get along with the coach, Riko, and the captain, Hyūga. You would often go to their practices to watch or help out with the equipment, and soon found yourself warming up to the team and the team, you.
It was one day after practice when Kagami approached you and asked you to be his friend. He stated it as "a temporary friendship until I find someone permanent to settle with." You knew he was hinting at you being his temporary 'girlfriend' rather than 'friend' as you two were already friends.
You didn't know why he would choose you of all people and why he needed a 'temporary friend' in the first place, but you accepted anyway. He probably only chose you because you were the most convenient. Besides, it wasn't like you were going to get too close to him. What's the harm of having a 'temporary friendship' anyway? You were just going to keep him company like the nice person you were.
Oh, how wrong that theory was.
To this day, you still wondered why he needed a 'temporary friend.' He had the looks and the charm, and well maybe not the brain, but girls would easily fall for him.
You decided not to dwell on it.
After spending more time with Kagami, you found yourself starting to develop feelings for him. Every time he invited you to hang out, your heart would flutter and whenever he got close, you could feel your face heat up.
You kept telling yourself that you shouldn't fall for him, that you were only temporary. But over time, those words couldn't convince you anymore. So you let those words fade.

"How many more are you going to do?" you asked, passing him another basketball. "It's already pretty late."
"Just a few more," he replied, getting ready to shoot. The ball bounced off the rim.
You laughed, "It looks like that you can only dunk."
He glared at you.
Suddenly your stomach let out a low rumbling noise. "Oh."
There was a few seconds of silence before Kagami started to crack up, "HAHAHAHA! WAS THAT YOUR STOMACH?"
You scowled, "Shut up Bakagami. You're stomach probably growls louder than mine."
Just as those words left your lips, there was a loud grumbling. Kagami immediately shut up and it was you who was cracking up this time.
There was a tint of red across Kagami's face as he said, "Since we're both hungry right now, let's go get some food at Maji Burger..."
"Sure."
You quickly cleaned up and exited the school. "Whoa, it's pretty dark out here. Wonder what time it is."
You took out your phone. "It's already 6:30! We lost track of time! You said only a little bit of extra practice today."
"Oops. Sorry."
You continued to walk to Maji Burger in silence. You wanted to confess to him, but he only looked at you as temporary.
No, you were going to confess to him at Maji Burger.

You started at the mountain of burgers on Kagami's tray and looked back down at your small meal of a (Favorite Flavor) milkshake and a maji burger.
You sighed. Still the same old Kagami.
You remembered that you were going to confess to Kagami and opened your mouth, but Kagami beat you to it.
"(First name)."
You blinked, "Yeah?"
"I think I found her."
"Found who?"
"Someone permanent."
You froze, feeling your gut drop in disappointment. So he really did only think of you as temporary. Your eyes stung, but you willed yourself not to cry. After hearing Kagami saying that he finally found someone, you couldn't bring yourself to confess. "Really?"
"Yeah, I'm going to confess to her tomorrow."
"Oh. Good luck!"
Part of you wished that the girl would reject him, but part of you wanted her to accept him so he could be happy.
He smiled at you, "Thanks."
The smile only hurt more.

At school the next day, you were quieter than usual and your best friend immediately noticed. "Is everything okay, (First name)-chan?" she/he asked.
"Yeah, I'm just tired," you answered.
(Best Friend's Name) knew that whenever you used that excuse, it was better to leave you alone. She/he stared at you before going back to whatever she/he was doing.
The end of the day came around and you headed toward the gym to watch the basketball team practice. On the way, you heard a familiar voice from a different hallway.
"I like you, (Random Girl's Name)."
Kagami.
You hid behind the corridor, waiting for the girl to give her answer.
"I-I've liked you for a long time, too."
You heard Kagami laugh and a few tears leaked out of your eyes. Quickly wiping them away, you started back on your route to the gym. You tried to become decent and pushed the door open, pretending to be your old cheerful self.
"(First name)-chan, do you know where Kagami-kun is?" asked Riko. "It's already been eight minutes since we started practice!"
As if on cue, the doors slammed open behind you.
"Sorry I'm late," Kagami said and jogged toward Riko, oblivious to the dark aura surrounding her. He turned his head toward you, "She said yes."
"Congrats."
"We can still be friends, right?"
"Yeah."
You watched him as he joined the rest of the members and get a good scolding from Riko.
Yeah, we can still be friends, but don't expect it to be the same as before.
