"Do you have a shower in here?" I asked Caleb who was still standing outside of the bedroom.
"Yah...can I join you?" He asked me and I could imagine the smirk on his face right now.
"Ha.ha. You're really funny." I respond to which he replies with, "That wasn't really an answer. So I'm going to take it as a yes!"
"Don't make me punch you!" I warn him and he chuckles. I was in the bedroom shuffling through all his clothes in the closet to see what I could actually wear.
As much as I love this white tee, there wasn't much that was covered.
"I wouldn't mind if you do. Your touch is like a blessing. But I wouldn't want to hurt this beautiful face of mine this early in the morning," Caleb jokes.
"I think I'm going to puke," I comment and he chuckles again. He's in an awfully happy mood today - I swear I'm not that funny.
He gestures to the right.
"The shower's in the bathroom which is at the first door to your right," Caleb instructs and I follow his instructions very cautiously.
There is indeed a bathroom there but me being me was very cautious in opening it. After all this was Caleb's apartment and I don't know what to expect. Before he became a speechless drunk, my father managed to teach me how to read a room and detect the tiniest things in it - things normal people would dismiss.
However, the only thing that I have detected about Caleb's apartment is that he is oddly clean.
"How many times will you doubt me?" He asks now that he's actually gotten inside the bedroom.
"Until you give me reason to not doubt you any longer," I answer and he shakes his head while smiling.
I swear he's in an awfully happy mood today.
"Gonna tell me about last night?" He mentions. Shit! I thought he was going to be a darling and not bring it up, but then again...when is Caleb ever a darling?
I shake my head no.
"Did something happen last night that I need to know of?" I tried to play off dumb and clueless.
"Yeah...you forgot? You ran outside of the club breathlessly - which I thought was because you couldn't wait to see me but then you told me to DRIVE and kept quiet the whole night. Did something happen?" Caleb describes the details of my night to me.
He didn't know about the fight and he definitely can't know about Vernon. I don't want Caleb to know too much about my life than he already has.
"I must've had too much to drink. Plus you know Chicago at night - wild!" I create an excuse to hide my lie. I didn't even have more than two drinks or maybe four but I was definitely not intoxicated to forget details of the club scene.
And a certain man following me last night threatening me...
"Oh. Well, I'm glad to know that I was the guy that came to your rescue." Caleb smirks and I immediately snap my head towards his direction to glare at him.
"My rescue?" I scoff.
"Yeah. Like Snow White when her prince saved her life," Caleb chirps and I look up to see him showing his million dollar smile - or should I say billion dollar smile.
Did he really just compare me to Snow White and him to a prince?
"Snow White needed a man to kiss her to wake her up from a poisoned fruit she stupidly took a bite out of. I don't think modern women are dumb enough to depend on a man to save them anymore, but thank you for last night. Don't worry. I'll be sure to return the favor of saving you soon," I promise him.
