G A L A N I G H T
The day had finally arrived! It was the Friday before we had to head back to school after Spring Break, but it was also the night of the Gala!
I've been looking forward to this all week with my best friends all away on vacation in Florida. Having to dress up and show off is starting to become my favorite pastime. It's all I really do when I meet with Caleb's 'family' anyway and today was a big deal for the operation.
Percy has been nagging at me all week long about how serious this mission was and how I needed to be prepared. I don't understand how talking it up with some older men at a Gala was serious, but I knew better than to argue against Percy.
Never the less, I was still ecstatic especially with this navy blue long dress that Percy dropped off at my sorority house earlier this morning. He made sure to drop it off when I was actually home to pick it up. I simply drove over there this morning at 5. Percy was on one of his jogs on Greek Row that he makes three times a week to check up on me. I know he said he got a busted knee but if you saw him run, you would say he's lying.
I have a perfectly good knee and yet I still struggle breathing and running while running. This man didn't break a sweat as he carried my heavy floor length gown through the door. I would've complained as he would've had to run with my dress the entire way, but he said he only ran 5 miles with it and he didn't break a sweat so I didn't need to worry about it smelling weird.
The navy blue dress was beautiful. It was decorated in tiny rhinestones on the top, high halter top, and was a mermaid fitted gown. He was right - I couldn't smell any weird smell on it.
Putting it on made me feel like a princess!
As I turned around in Caleb's bathroom to look at myself in the mirror, I was reminded of junior prom. This dress was pretty similar to what I had planned for my junior prom, but I didn't attend because I had to save the money for my mother's funeral. I was going to buy a similar dress, but it cost too much after everything that happened and I wasn't really in the mood to go to prom with everything that occurred anyway.
As conflicted as I am about being an asset to the CIA and still dating Caleb, I knew tonight had to go well for the CIA. Not going well will lead us down months and months of unresolved conflicts with the operation and I don't want to deal with Percy's complaints for the next few months if I'm being honest.
As awful as I feel for betraying Caleb by helping out the CIA, I couldn't imagine how Gabe felt. I mean, it's his father and brother and his entire family legacy and he's willing to turn his back on them.
I couldn't fathom what he was going through even though he said it was fine and that he needed to expose them. It's still his family.
Hearing steps around the corner, I turn to my right to see Caleb standing in the door frame staring at me up and down with lovely dovey eyes.
He looked shocked, "New dress?"
I nod and smile. I gave him a little spin in the dress and show off my body.
"I have a present for you," He tells me and smiles. The corner of my mouth lifts up hearing that he actually got me a present considering how he rarely gets me one.
He takes my hand into his and gently guides me out of the bathroom into the living room. Walking into the living room, I noticed one big box laid out in front of wrapped in a pretty bright white bow.
I give Caleb a look of suspicion like 'you really got me something and it's not going to jump out at me, right?'
I remember that one time when he was chasing after me last semester and made pigs fly in an open field of grass. Ever since then, I've been a little nervous and excited to open his gifts.
