It was the night before the wedding, and Sanju was staying over at my place, as she was to get ready here. She was laying on the floor after doing push-ups, and I was just cleaning up after the huge amount of McDonalds we had just mushed down. "Do you think I'll lose the overarms after an hour of these?" Sanju said and started doing more. I kicked her so she fell and laughed at her stupidity. "No..!" I said, taking a seat on the couch resting my feet on her back! She trailed them off as she got up and ate the rest of her McFlurry
"I'll be married tomorrow!" She said licking her spoon! "It's crazy, seriously!" I said grabbing the ice cream from her. She dumped next to me, she looked at me. "Just promise you won't be annoying after this! Nothing is to change! Let it stay like this!" I said I was serious Sanju and her family was the closes I had to family in England. "Of course not silly! You'll always be my little retard Avni" she said pulling me into a hug. And we just started crying into each other's arms. This was an important not to mention a huge thing for a girl! It was her day, a day every girl was looking forward to, and for Sanju she was a romantic, and her father making this everything she wanted was just so amazing. We decided to go to bed as we had to get up early to get ready.
It was 4am, and Sanju was running around looking for the towels, which I had recently moved. "Avni, mind helping me here? The salon ladies will be here any minute!" She said, while finally finding the towels and running to grab a showers. I thought about it and got up, the door phone rang and I picked up! "Hello?" I said with my grumpy tired voice. "Heey! I am looking for a bride?" A woman's voice came through, I clicked the lock! "Come on up!" I said and unlocked the door. After a bit of time 2 tiny women with far too much makeup appeared in the door. "Godmorning, the bride is in the shower, I am guessing you have to set up?" I said pointing at the 2 rollies by their side
"Yes that would be good!" The one with hot red lips said. "You can do it here. Tea?" I said pointing toward the dinning table. "Thanks" the other one said and started rolling toward the dinning table. I walked into the kitchen and started boiling some water, and then I looked around. I should probably call for some breakfast as it's going to be a long day.
I called Aunty, who was up and about and made me feel lazy."I am here!" Sanju yelled stumbling out from the bathroom. I poured up the tea and placed it on the dinning table. They both gave me a smile, as one was handing the other one a face primer while the other one was full on moisturising Sanju's face. I gave them all a smile and ran to grab shower!
It had been almost 3 hours, and in the meanwhile Aunty and Anu had arrived as well. Sanju were now ready to put her wedding gown. She walked out after putting it on, and the tears started streaming down from Aunty's and my eyes. She was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
She came over and hugged us both! "Stop crying or I'll start crying and then everything will be ruined!" She said trying to hind her tears. "Sorry! Sanju" we both laughed while whipping our tears. "Who's next?" The one with red lips said. I pointed at Aunty, and they started doing their magic! After another half hour we were ready."Thanks a lot again!" I yelled after the two from the salon after letting them out. Okay first we had to go to the court house and get them married there so that they were legal.
"Ready?" I yelled at Sanju, Aunty and Anu who was still inside. They all ran out like a train, and ran towards the car. Aunty in the front and Sanju and Anu in the back. I could see Anu in my mirror and I felt this stupid hate towards her, all because I knew that she had kissed Rajveer, it wasn't suppose to annoy me... BUT IT DID!We arrived at the court house, and Sanju's in laws were there along with Rajveer and his parents. Not to forget Tushar. I walked in with Sanju and Aunty by my side and my eyes immediately found Rajveer's who gave me a longing look, which after turned into a stone cold glare. My heart froze and cracked into a million pieces. But I didn't care! I JUST COULDN'T LET MYSELF CARE!
After we walked her to the desk and made her stand by Tushar's side, it was clear to see how perfect they were. Tushar whispered something
in her ear, and knowing Sanju and her face expression she was trying to hold in a laugher. They signed the papers, and were now legally married. Everyone walked around congratulating one another, and when I reached Rajveer, he pushed me aside hugging Anu instead. I felt a rage inside me. Why was he making it so hard for me? "Ohoo Rajveer!? What was that?" His mother Mrs. Singh asked him pointing at me. "What?" He asked knowing exactly what she meant. "Ohh it's okay Aunty!" I said making my way towards the other side of the room. Now it was time to go the Gurdware(Temple) to get married traditionally. I pulled in Sanju who was all wrapped up in a talk with Tushar."Come on Sanju, you got the rest of your life to talk!" I said, and everyone laughed. I followed Sanju out to my car, along with her parents and off we went.
As we arrived all the men and mothers went inside. Sanju, Anu, two of other cousins and I stayed outside to walk her in. I stood by her side putting one hand on her shoulder and the other on her hands, and so did Anu on the other side. And the other two cousins held her dubadda(heavy wedding scarf) from behind.
The doors slammed open, into the praying room, and a sum saying Waheguru. We walked her in, and upto Tushar who was waiting for at the holly square. She sat down next to him, and we sat by her other side. After doing the first part of the prayer Sanju and Tushar got up. He followed her to one corner where her cousin was standing, and her cousin took her hands and followed her down to a second cousin at the next corner who then followed her to the next while everyone were saying their prayers. As she reached back to in front of the square she sat back down, and so began the next round of prayers, and after they were said, they repeated.
It was her brothers following her around symbolising that they were ready to give their sisters care to another man. I liked this part, it was so sweet! I was actually just a huge fan of weddings... Just not the thought of my own.
As she walked the last round, followed by her cousins, they were now officially married. And everyone was hugging yet again, this time with huge smiles on their lips. Once again I meet Rajveer and this time he looked to his left where his mother was watching us. He simply put out the hand. I stiffened my expression trying my best to ignore everything. I took his hand and as his touch met mine a shiver went through my spine. His grip around my tinny hand was firm, and as I tried to pull my hand back he squeezed my hand so that I couldn't get my hand out of his hand. We stood there until Anu came by, "they are looking for you, oh and Rajveer, your mom wanted to talk to me. Do you know where she is?" She said, while wearing a bitch face, just until she asked about his mother. I stormed away, not wanting to know why she wanted to talk to her.
