3 years later
We, Rajveer and I were waiting at the hospital. Loud screams were coming from Sanju's room, and Tushar were running in and out. She was about to give birth, and as much as I wanted to be in the room with her, I had to wait for the other relatives to arrive.
Tushar and Sanju had been married for 2 years, almost 3 now. I decided to stay and take the rest of my education here and then return to Denmark. The situation between Rajveer and I weren't that different. We did talk but not more than necessary, even though he tried. I hated him, but I would still think of him and crave his touch. Sanju and Tushar tried their best not to have us over at the same time, but we always ended up being at their place at the same time.
"That sounds so painful, poor Sanju!". Rajveer said looking at me. I nodded. "Well it's all natural, but yeah poor her." I said and tried not to make any further convocation. He opened his mouth about to speak, but Aunty and Uncle arrived along with Sanju's in-laves. I quickly got up and informed them about the current situation, and ran to her room to be by her side.
"I HATE YOU!" Sanju yelled at Tushar and squeezing both Tushar and my hand. Poor Tushar he looked in pain and incredibly scared. "She dosen't mean that, you don't mean that!" I yelled trying to lap over her loud scream caused by her contractions. "I see baby's head!" The doctor said in a calming tone from between Sanju's legs. You could see Sanju were exhausted. Poor her, she had had mild but painfull contractions since yesterday and earlier as we were cooking her water broke, and the four of us rushed to the hospital, and had now had constante contractions for about 2 hours.
"And PUSH!" the doctor commented and she pushed, the baby finally had arrived into this world, screaming and kicking. You could feel then tension, worry and pain leave the room and a relief and happiness take over the room. The little girl was wrapped in a blanket and placed in Sanju's arms as Tushar, his mother, Aunty and I all looked her. "Welcome to this world baby girl!" Tushar said, and kissed her forehead. "Hey there!" Sanju said bringing her closer, the baby stopped crying. And we all started crying out of happiness. All of a sudden Sanju made an face, and cringed in pain. Tushar quickly grabbed the baby. "What's wrong?!" He asked getting worried, as Aunty, his mother and I were clam. "It's just the afterbirth Beta!" Aunty said and we all giggled, except Sanju who was full on busy trying to get the afterbirth out. As it was out, and the baby had been cleaned and put into Tushars arms I went outside to announce that it was over. I walked outside, and Rajveer grabbed my shoulder. "What?!" He asked looking all concerned. "It's a healthy little girl!" I said, and everyone stood there with joy and congratulated one another. After everyone had greeted the new member of the family everyone left, except Tushar and I. Rajveer ran home to fetch some stuff. He retuned with a bag and two teddy bears. One of them were from me, and the slightly larger one was from him. Of course he had to out do me.
But mine was still cuter, and I was certain that baby would love it, as she almost chose it herself. It was about a week or so ago, Sanju and I was out shopping when we found that teddy bear, and as we were admiring it, baby kicked. We both agreed it was because she wanted it, so of corse Avni Masi(mothers sister) had to get it for her. I should stop referring to myself in 3rd person.
I finally got to hold her, she was so precious, so tiny. An instant love grew for her, the last time I felt this way, was when my elder sister had given birth to her children. And the feeling always made me unexplainable happy. "My turn" Rajveer said and started grabbing her. "No, No Rajveer. Stop! You will wake her!" I hissed. He looked at me and gave me a smile that made me feel very weak, emotionally of course. Both Rajveer and Tushar went outside, it was Tushars smoke break. Both Sanju and baby were asleep and I figured I could put her down and fetch something to eat downstairs. I agreed with myself that it was the right thing to do. So I put her down slowly making sure not to wake any of them, especially Sanju. She had had two ruff days and deserved rest in any way.
I left the room and started going walking towards the staires. Sometimes I wish I could be honest with myself and just admit I wanted to be with Rajveer, but my pride and stubbornness just made sure not to take down my attitude towards him. I was surprised that he was actually having it. I had come to know Rajveer over the past 3 years. He couldn't in any chance handle attitude or rude people, he would roast them at the spot. But with me, he was patient, he would just turn around when ever I gave him attitude. But I would always be entertained whenever he did roast someone.
I reached the cafeteria and stood in line. "Avni right?" I voice in front of me asked. I looked up and was literally thrown back in surprise when I saw who stood in front of me. "OH My Gosh, Derek!" I said and gave him wide smile. "How are you?!" I asked crossing my arms still wearing a wide smile. "I am great now, I have gotten over you not calling me!" He joked, I gave him an awkward and nervous laugh. "I am sorry, it was just a completely wrong time" after completing my sentence I spotted Rajveer behind Derek, and got this great idea. "A much better time now!" I added. His expression changed and turned into this hopeful one, and I instantly felt bad about doing what I was about to do. "Well.. Lucky for you I am still single, and would love to take you out!" He said and smiled widely. I looked behind him and noticed Rajveer observing us. I tugged my hair behind my ear and gave him a shy smile. "That sounds great." I looked back up at him and noticed he was in his uniform. "You're in your uniform!" I pointed out, he looked down himself and smiled "Well... Car accident, I am just here to follow up" He tugged his hands in his pants and nodded towards me. "What about you?" He asked. I smiled thinking of the newborn baby girl I already loved so much. "Do you remember my weird friend!" He thought about it "Which one, the one that upset you, or the one that ate the truffles I brought for you?" He asked I laughed a little. "The one that ate the truffles. Anyway she just had a baby girl." He smiled but yet he was surprised. I didn't blame him, Sanju as a mother. It was defiantly hard to imagine. His walkie talkie started making noises, and he clicked this button down and started communicating. I just looked at him, I thought it was cute. "Mark we gotta run" he said to his partner behind him "I'll see you then?" He asked with this hopefull look. "Defiantly!" I smiled. He pulled out his little notebook and handed me a pen along with it. "write your number here, I'll make sure to call!" He said and I did as I was told and waved him goodbye as he ran off just after.
"Isn't it that cop who dropped by you the day after you rejected me?" Rajveer said from behind. I turned around and whipped away the smile from my lips. "That cop has a name, and it's Derek. And for your information he is very sweet!" I said and payed. I sat down by a table, and Tushar and Rajveer plopped down on the same. I looked up, and found Rajveer staring at me, he was defiantly annoyed. I just stared back at him. I noticed his eyes, I liked his eyes. There was just something about his eyes, this charm. "I am guessing the two of you are annoyed. Is it one of them again?" Tushar said, referring to the many times Rajveer and I had tried to murder each other through the eyes. As I none of us answered he just let out a sight. ".. .. I am just gonna eat with Sanju and my daughter, have fun!" He said and got up. We didn't break the eye contact until he said something dumb. "We were perfect together!" He said and I realized this sadness take over his eyes. For some reason it still effected me, he still had an impact on me and it was still big. "Shut up, there was never a 'we'" I said and furry took over his eyes. Now he was mad. "Avni - " "Rajveer, there was never a 'we'. Stop making it sound like there was a 'we'" I cut him off, there was defiantly a 'we' 3 years ago. I wasn't going to admit there were, I knew he would make a big deal out of it, if I did.
"So you are saying you don't miss the feeling of being in my arms?" I shifted in my seat, and a satisfied smile blasted on his face. I stiften my expression. "I don't, I am just looking forwards to the feeling I'll get when I am in Derek's arms!" I said and took another bite and gave him a cheeky smile. He let out a laugh, and crossed his arms. "When you do have the chance to be in his arms, just know that it won't feel anything like when you were in mine. That feeling of comfort and safety, that feeling of it all falling in place, you won't get that from your cop." He spat. The worst part was that it was true. The feeling I got of being in Rajveers arms were something almost indescribable. I knew I wouldn't get that with no other. By saying that he ripped my smile off my face, and I felt his satisfaction.
He leaned in over the table and "And know one thing Avni! When you do end up in his arms. I will stop trying. I will stop trying to get 'us' back! I will stop wanting you as bad as I want you now! I will stop seeking your attention. And the day it all stop, you will be the one to beg for it all to come back!" After saying this he got up and headed to the parking lot, he was furious. I felt so little in my chair. I was ripped for words, I couldn't think f anything to say. I just sat there..
