Scared [Nick's POV]

What worries me the most is that when I go for my college interview one day, they'll have a look at my Wattpad account and send me to a therapist 😂

Judy and I were strapped in and ready to go. There was a serious incident downtown and we were called out as backup to assist the other officers if needed. We had bulletproof vests on and everything! I was actually quite excited, feeling like I was in the next biggest cop film, whereas Judy was more scared.

She held her gun in her trembling hands as we sat in silence in the back of our cop car. The back because we couldn't risk getting caught by those who were starting the trouble. But, our car was parked in an alleyway so, lucky for us.

I noticed her nervous attitude as her ears drooped low as her brows creased in worry. She kept looking out of the window in an antsy way, as if she just wanted all of this to be over. After all, it was our first serious mission as cops, but I felt completely in tone with my inner cop, ready to take down all the bad guys. If only Finnick was here to see me now...

"How can you be so excited?" Judy asked, almost angrily.

"Adrenaline?" I said, it coming out as more of a question rather than an answer.

Judy just sighed and looked down at the gun in her lap.

"This is not what I meant by making the world a better place," she muttered, her ears drooping slightly as she ran her finger over the metal of her gun.

"What do you mean? I thought you were all about catching crooks and and guys," I said, resting my arm on the headrest behind me.

"I am, but...not like this..." She paused, and I knew she was going to continue. "Nick, I'm scared," she suddenly admitted, looking up at me in fear.

I had to admit, I was a bit taken aback by that, but I didn't show it. It wasn't like Judy to be scared and, when she was, it made me realise that even she had boundaries.

"What's that thing you used to say? "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."?" I asked, not trying to sound teasing even though it came out that way.

"I know, but...I've never done this before. What if we get shot?!" She gasped in shock.

I narrowed my eyes at her tiredly.

"Carrots, that's why we have bulletproof vests," I said, putting my thumbs behind the fabric of the vest on me and flicking it forward.

"But, like, in the head?!" She prodded.

I lazily reached into the boot of the car and pulled out two helmets.

"That's why we have these," I answered monotonously, tossing one in Judy's direction.

She scrambled to catch it but when she did, she hugged it like her life depended on it. The fear was visible in her eyes, and in the way she was rocking back and forth in her seat. I sighed out of sympathy and took her face in my paws.

"Nick, what are you-?"

I cut her off abruptly by pressing my lips to hers softly. I didn't know what her reaction would be if I kissed her, but I was dying to and she seemed like she needed it. But she didn't pull away, or even hesitate to kiss back, which made me feel like she had given in to her fear and out her faith in me...for once.

When I pulled away, I could see her furry cheeks were tinted pink but she still looked beautiful.

"How do you feel now?" I asked, smirking at her slightly as I returned to my original position with my arm against the headrest.

Judy considered this for a moment before answering.

"Alive," she simply answered before static charged through her walkie talkie strapped to her utility belt.

"Requesting backup, I repeat requesting backup. Officer Hopps and Officer Wilde, your assistance is needed," Bogo's voice came from the other side and we gave each other a smirk before slipping on our helmets and loading our guns.

"Race ya," Judy said before getting out of the car and running off.

"Hey, no fair!" I whined, getting out and following her frantically.

I can just imagine Nick scurrying off to follow Judy and then tripping up on nothing and it makes me laugh...A LOT.
