Only the top portion of her belly works." "That's correct. I'll need to see Anna every month or so for checkups." I nodded, grabbed my daughter and got on a plane back to Chicago.
We went straight to the firehouse. Anna went right over to Matt. "Hi daddy!" "Hi princess." "Hey Gabby." "Hey." I told him before we told everyone else.
"Can I have everyone's attention please?" They all looked. "As you all know, Anna and I flew out to Boston for a doctors appointment. Turns out, she's not Lactose Intolerant or has Acid Reflux. She has Pseudo Obstruction Motility Disorder." I saw Brett's face drop. "Oh god." They all said.
That night when we put all 3 kids to bed, Anna asked me, "Mommy, when am I gonna get better?" I looked at her. "Well, baby, the doctors say you're not gonna get better." "So I'm gonna die?" I didn't answer. "We'll talk in the morning."
