Only the whirring of the AC could be heard in the middle of darkness. She had no idea what time she gave into exhaustion last night, or how many hours she had left before she had to get up. In fact, she didn't care much; she was far too happy and comfortable to be bothered getting up.
She was about to go back to sleep when an arm snaked around her waist. He palmed her taut stomach, and she felt his thumb rubbed lazy circles near her navel piercing as he tried to draw her closer.
"Maine, ang lamig. Tara dito."
She smiled at how clingy he was when he was sleepy and cold. She couldn't blame him really; they were still naked from last night's activities and only a thin blanket was separating their satisfied bodies from the blast of cool air. She scooted closer, her back to his front, and she felt him press a sweet kiss to her shoulder.
It was a regular early morning; the digital clock on her bedside table it was just a few minutes past three in the morning. It would still be hours before the sun came up, and they still could snatch some sleep before they had to get ready for work.
It seemed like a regular early morning for any ordinary couple, but the two of them were far from being one.
They met nine months ago, in a place where the most unlikely of love stories start. They shared small conversations at first, and these turned into three-hour phone calls at two in the morning. The phone calls led to coffee dates, and coffee dates led them here. Right in this blissful moment where she felt nobody can ever tear them apart.
But that was just her. It was all in her head, a chapter in her unending book of imaginings.
Of course.
He pulled her closer, if that was even physically possible. But the cool metal pressing against her skin woke her up, and she was again harshly reminded of the sad reality. She tried to remove his arm from her waist, but he hugged her even tighter and buried his nose in her hair.
"Chard, sandali. Di ako makahinga."
"Dito ka lang kasi. Bakit ba ang lakas lakas ng AC mo?"
"Do you want me to turn it off?"
"No. Just keep me warm, please?"
He started leaving soft kisses to her hair, neck, shoulders. The slow, innocent kisses turned to urgent, heated ones and she welcomed him happily when he reached her mouth. They had done this a million times already and maybe a couple thousand more, but it always felt like their first.
He had that kind of effect on her. They were perfect for each other, but they met at the wrong place at the wrong time. They were perfect for each other, but he was married and was still very much in love with his wife. Though she loved him more than life itself, it didn't and would never change the fact that she was just his dirty little secret.
She moved on top of him, his hands automatically finding their way to her backside, squeezing the supple flesh with every needy moan that she lets out. She wanted to keep on kissing him forever – maybe that was her subconscious trying to keep him in her bed, in her arms, and far away from his wife? She didn't know, and she didn't give a damn. All she knew was she loved him even though he didn't love her back.
