Prompt: The emotions of your favourite song, and the complete opposite of it, all in.

TODAY is a set of poems inspired by my favourite song Something I Need by One Republic. (Do give it a listen!) It's about how we only have one life to live and that we should spend it with the person we can't live without.

The poems talk about the phases in a relationship: how it starts with everything all bright and sunny, then things get heated in the middle, and die down when darkness looms and time passes. But at the end of the day, when you meet the right person, and you know that he or she is the one, you work hard to keep the relationship alive. You don't just leave. You make it work.

You stay.

Morning: There she is.

Every morning I find myself thinking

about how much she means to me.

I always wake up with lovely thoughts of her,

fresh from our previous night's intimacy.

Back then she was just that part of my meal

that I disliked but ended up having.

And from what was once just a girl on the screen,

she became the woman I ended up loving.

Now she has become my morning, my sunrise.

And like pancake mix and coffee beans,

she's the girl unmade, raw and undressed

In this world of overdone things.

She always tells me how plain and ugly she feels

And most days she claims are not her best;

But no matter what she does or how she looks

I will never want her any less.

She is the only woman I'd kiss and love

In a thousand ways – that I'm sure.

And I am most certain that my heart will break

If she decides to head for the door.

She is a dictionary of all the beautiful words,

And all of those words merged into one.

Yet I can't help but fear that I'd wake up one day

And she'd ripped off the pages — she'd be gone.

She makes me want to speak and express

And I never thought I'd say this ever –

But reluctant as I am at how cheesy this sounds,

She's my definition of 'forever.'

Noon: Here we go.

It's two minutes past noon and I'm still staring at her,

tucked in sheets with some parts peeking.

And right then and there we make love again;

But a few minutes in, she starts speaking.
