 "Chard, huwag mo 'kong iwan, please," Maine begged.

She was on her knees, sobbing. She didn't care about pride, or ego, or self-worth.

She just needed him to stay.

"I'm sorry, Maine. Kelangan kong gawin 'to."

He started to walk away. His hand was on the door when he heard her speak.

"Chard, paano tayo?"

He turned to look at her, pain written all over his eyes.

"Tama na muna yung tayo, Maine. This time, ako muna. Ako naman."

He slammed the door shut so loud that he didn't hear her say,

"But Chard, I am having your baby."

Three Years Later

It's nearly ten o'clock and Richard's not exactly sure if she's ever going to show up. Their agreed time was five PM. But he's going to wait. There was a time when he had made her wait for far longer than that.

At exactly ten, a solitary figure stepped out of the shadows. It was Maine. She came.

"Thank you," he said.

"For what?"

"For coming."

Maine sighed.

"Ayoko sana, but he asked me to," she said, referring to her new boyfriend.

"Okay lang sa kanya?," Richard asked, running his hand through his hair—an all too familiar gesture when he's anxious.

"Oo. He felt you needed this closure."

"Ikaw ba, you don't need one?"

"Hindi na. Not anymore."

Well, that hurt, he thought.

"Couldn't you at least be gentle?," he pleaded.

"Chard, you weren't gentle with me back then."

Her tone surprised him. She wasn't angry; not even a bit hurt. Heck, she wasn't even sad. But her tone, the way she said it, frustrates him to no end.

He sat down on the cold, hard pavement, not trusting his legs to support him any longer. He should have known this will happen, that everything he did before will backfire on him. But he was willing to take a chance—he will do anything to get her back.

He raised his head, meeting her eyes for the first time after more than three years of not seeing her.

"Maine, I didn't want to shut you out of my life for good," he said, shaking his head, "But things happened. We lost touch."

"Hindi ba yun naman ang gusto mo? That I leave you alone? You said you wanted time away from me, away from us. Sabi mo hindi mo na kilala ang sarili mo kaya you broke up with me. Na-blindside ako dun, Chard. I did not see that coming kasi okay naman tayo eh. Akala ko nga babalik ka. I waited. For a year, and then for another year. Until I grew tired of waiting."
