January 24, 2016, Airport

Maine is standing in front of a café. She looks at her watch: 6:30 am, it says. I can still get a cup, or two. Maaga pa.

Rich is sitting at one of the tables inside a café, checking his emails. Seems flight will be delayed. Again.

After getting her cup, Maine scans the café and sees a familiar face. She pauses and thinks if she should go greet him. She closed her eyes and breathed in before she walked towards him.

"Hey!" She said, tapping him on the shoulder.

Rich looks up at the figure that appeared in front of him and recognizes her, "Uy! Kumusta?" He stands up and meets her for a cheek kiss. They're friends anyway. 'Friends'.

"Okay lang. Okay naman." Maine replies, uneasily. "Long time ah..."

"Ha? Oo nga eh." Rich lets out a nervous chuckle, and offers her a seat. "Uy, tara. Join me. What time is your flight?" He puts his phone back in his bag and he sits after she took the free seat.

"In two hours." Maine replies. "Ikaw?"

"Well, same. Off to Manila?" Rich asks.

"Yeah. Haha! Baka sabay pa tayo." Maine says with a laugh. This is awkward.

"Mukha nga. Baka nga..." Rich says. This is weird.

"So, what brought you here?" Maine asks. "Work?"

"Yeah. Did a shoot for a teleserye." Rich says, looking at her. "Ikaw?"

"Ah. Business. Yung online business ko. I met with some suppliers." Maine says before she takes a sip from her cup.

Maine looks on, towards the people outside. Thinking Of all people, of all places...

Rich looks at the woman seated across him. Remembering what happened in the past, how things changed that one night because of her...

They met in film class. November 5, 2013.

Richard, 'Rich', was in his (second year) in Senior year – Communications Major. He just came back from another school leave after a 2-month stint as an apprentice to a renowned director – reason why it has taken him 2 years to finish his senior year subjects. Last sem, let's do this.

Nicomaine, 'Maine', was in her Junior year, Management Major. She's an (over) achiever – consistent Dean's Lister, School Organization Interim Vice President. Her signing up for a Film class was a one-shot, knowing her schedule for the coming semester: core subjects and other activities – she needed an 'easy' elective. So she enlisted with her friend. What's so difficult with watching films, right?

On the first day of COM167 – Film Review:

The room they are in was designed for multiple use: as a theater, a studio; today, their classroom. In front is a huge white screen for projection; rolled on top of it is a green screen used for special shoots. On the sides there are lights and poles in different sizes. Today, a number of tables and chairs are set up for the class. They are 28 in all.
