Timing is everything.
Just a few minutes, sometimes even seconds, could make a huge difference. Imagine, if you will, someone running late for work because they were busy scrambling around, looking for their ID or some other incredibly mundane thing. When it's finally found, that someone immediately rushes out of the door, through the gate, not bothering to look left and right before crossing the street. This person is narrowly missed by a speeding vehicle, just a few inches between life and painful, not to mention messy death. If that ID hadn't been misplaced, this person might've gone out a little earlier and could've been splattered all over the asphalt like a gruesome painting depicting the importance of road safety. Those precious few minutes of delay could save someone's life. In this case, it could've saved someone's relationship.
So yeah, timing is everything.
If only RJ knew this, it could've saved everyone a shit ton of heartache.
Unfortunately, he didn't.

Maine isn't having the best morning. She made the mistake of reading a particularly toxic thread on Twitter. Things like this usually don't affect her but today, it felt as if the hateful words banded together to from a vise-like grip on her chest. She felt...poisoned. She tried to shake the feeling off but these kind of things have a way of clinging to your skin and leeching as much positivity from your insides as they could. It was only the beginning of the day but she already felt exhausted. Her time of the month was also just around the corner and it wasn't helping with her pensive mood. She went to work with a cloud above her head.
Juan For All started pretty much the way it always did, in high spirits despite the scorching heat and the overwhelming number of spectators. RJ is sitting in today's panel because JDL is off traveling somewhere. The first thing he notices is Maine's shorts and his jaw clenches. He's told her so many times that he doesn't like it when she shows too much skin, especially when she's out in baranggays but she hardly ever listens to him. This is the 3rd time in a week that she's done this and it's really getting on his nerves. So, the first chance that he gets, he calls her out. On national television.
"Maine, ano nanaman yang suot mo? Diba nag-usap na tayo?" he says in a serious tone.
This grates on her nerves.
Who did he think he was anyway? He's not even her boyfriend yet. He's just a suitor. He has no right to tell her what she can and can't wear. It's as hot as hell outside and she just wants to be comfortable, thus the shorts.
Annoyance is clearly etched on her face when she answers.
"Mainit, Alden."
"Alam ko. Pero kailangan talaga ganyan kaikli yung shorts?"
"Anong gusto mong gawin ko, mag baro't saya? Sige gagawin ko bukas."
They both stop talking as the FD's from both ends frantically gesture for them to cease. Throughout the whole segment, they're obviously both sulking so Wally, Jose, Allan K, and Bossing were left to salvage the whole thing.
As soon as the segment ends, RJ abruptly gets up as he starts dialing her number. No answer. He dials again. No answer. He dials again. This happens about 4 more times before she finally picks up.
