It's been two weeks since I've been home and I have been so busy with getting everything ready for my exhibition. I've hired someone to help me so I don't totally screw everything up. I haven't done anything like this before and I want it to be as perfect as it can be. Donna Powell, event planner, and all around bitch. If I didn't need her so much I would have fired her after the first couple of days. She has the worst attitude of anyone I have ever met before in my life. She is always so negative. Everyone keeps telling me just to drop her and either find someone else or do the rest myself but I have begun to depend on her. She knows her shit. Her knowledge of the whole business is the only thing keeping her around. I need her experience.
Since I have Donna the ice queen taking care a lot of the event details I can focus on getting my photos together. I took so many in different countries. I have this idea of showcasing each country in its own spot in the gallery. I'm going to hang the flags of each country behind each. I have Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Russia. I have taken hundreds and hundreds of pictures, it's probably more like thousands. I have to go through all of them and pick out the best ones. It's going to be almost impossible. This is why I hired Donna to help me. I haven't figured out the number of photos for each country yet. I am thinking at least 6. I can risk the chance of choosing too many if people actually want to buy.
My parents are beyond excited for this to happen. It's still a month away but they still ask me questions about it just about every day. I love that they're so supportive but sometimes they're a bit much. I'm not complaining, though, I love their support. They keep asking if there's anything they can do to help and I keep telling them as long as they don't drive me insane by the night of the exhibit we will be ok. I would never say a parent could love their child too much but they sure do come close sometimes.
I spend most of my day checking my e-mail so it's no surprise that it's what I am doing right now. I have a day off today, which is nice, I gave myself that luxury. Donna is at a wedding, which is surprising to me since I can't imagine her even having friends, so I decided to stay home and catch up on some things. I get an email from RCG productions. That's the guys from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They're developing a pilot and want one of my photos to be featured in it. There will be storylines about it if it gets picked up. I just about fall out of the chair when I read how much they want to pay me for it. I pick up my phone and send a text to Tyler.
Amy : call me when you get out of practice
This is way too much money to just send a casual email back saying 'sure, use it." I need to be smart about this. Everything is getting way out of control. I didn't think when I started my business that my photos would be circulating around the movie and television scene. Someone must be throwing my name around but I just have no idea who or why. This is not a bad problem to have. I just want to make sure I handle it correctly. This could mean big things for me if I can keep this up. My phone rings and it's Tyler.
"Hey," I say, my voice a little shaky from the excitement.
"Is everything ok?" he asks, sounding concerned. I guess I should have told him it wasn't bad news.
"Yeah. Sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like it was something bad. This is actually very good. You know the guys who created It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?"
"Yeah."
"They just emailed me asking if they can use one of my photos in their pilot. They want to pay me a ridiculous amount of money for it. I feel like this is too much. I don't want to mess this up."
"First of all, that is amazing. You deserve it. Second, I really think you need to consider what we talked about, you know, getting an agent. You won't have to worry about the contract stuff and they'll help you get more work. I can talk to John if you want me to. Maybe he knows someone."
